MG TD TF 1500 - Help value MG please

Greetings,
I hope this is in the correct area. I inherited an very incomplete MG. The chassis front cab and engine/transmission. It was once complete but it was taken apart and the barn it was in caught fire and burned all but the main pieces. It is an 1952 mg td. The engine has moving pistons. The numbers on the frame and engine match. What is something like this worth? Thanks for the help!!!

SP Purvian

My guess, about $2K and only because the engine appears complete. If it were known to be running and in good order, it would perhaps be worth a bit more than that on its own. Do you plan to restore the car?
Steve Simmons

I concour with Steve. $1500 to $2000. Mainly for the engine and transmission, but really a pig in a poke without knowing their condition.
LaVerne

Thanks guy's that was fast. To the question if I am going to restore. No, I am not going to restore, probably going to Craigslist it. Also I have the original owners manual. Again thanks!!!

Does the rest of the car exist?

...500 engine....500 transmission....500 tub..... give or take, that should be the minimum......
I would think everyone involved would be happy..... too bad they can't all stay together....

Have you taken the valve cover off to take a "peek" inside? From the "non-standard" colors I would guess there is a good chance this has been re-built.
(Seems unlikley someone would go to the trouble of cleaning & painting an engine & tranny if it had not been worked on.)

It then becomes a question of "whom" did the rebuild.
This may be a good place to find someone that could take a closer look for you as well. Lot of nice people here that have been known to do that.
David Sheward

The tub looks pretty decent from what I can see. That's probably worth $1K all by itself. Are the carburetors on the other side? Unless the engine is bound up, it would be stealing to pay less than $3K for the package. IMHO. Bud

OBTW:
After looking a bit closer ...I would be carefull about "spinning" the engine without putting a bit of Marvel Mystery oil down the plug holes. This apears to have been stored with no oil in it. If it has sat for very long at least dropping the sump pan would be a good idea as well to see if it has rusted inside.

It seems I have a lot of work ahead of me. But yes I bought it.

...lets keep this one up here for a bit....

This thread indicated three major components, engine, gearbox and tub sans firewall. When did all of the rest of the parts come into the picture? I'm curious about what Gerard thought he was buying. Bud

Whatever it was I'm sure he talked to the owner before he made his offer.

He's asking 4500.00 now on another site. I hope he eats it.

You have to love the way the MG community stands together!

Been watching with interest as I had a simular experance with my TF. Purchased from ebay I had sent a deposit, taken time off work, rented a trailer and was 1/2hr away from picking up the car when I got a call telling me the deal was "off" and I should turn around and go back home. (800miles away).

Better idea ...I'm going to be "in-your-face" in about 25mins you had better be there with the car or you will be dealing with police and gray men in thin suits (lawyers).
Turned out the "broker" that sold the car on ebay had it sold out from under him. The "dealer" that bought it had aggreed to go through with the sale on ebay to me, but had been offered $5k more for it while I was on the way to pick up.

"Rudy" (the dealer) was a man of honor, (the broker was a putz). I have never seen a guy work so hard to "not" sell a car! We shook hands and sealed the deal with me giving my word I would not just turn around and sell the car to "his" buyer (now offering $7k more than I paid). The buyer chased me down the NJ turnpike and offered me $10k more than I had paid. I still have the car, am still friends with Rudy and talk to him every few years.

Your better off doing business with "trust" ...when the dust settles (and this smuck can't sell it...offer him $500 less than the orginial deal!
(Get a contract!)

I am truly amazed at the disgusting behaviors that greed brings out in people. The MG crowd is a distinguished group of outstanding people. It is sad that the occasional bad apple comes along, but fortunately, they are few and far between.
I am prowd to be associated with this group.

Gents,

As I told Gerard in private, this guy is not an MG person. Through circumstances he is selling some car parts (coincidently MG). I have said it before, the ladies and gentlemen who populate this board are all people of character. I feel lucky to have this resource and the email acquaintance of a few of the people I have met here.

Best regards,

This seller is now trying Craigslist "seattle" I have flagged him.
