MG TD TF 1500 - Inclined MG TD
A friends mg td was inclined, like the Titanic, towards the drivers side. We blamed on the drivers weight and therefor changed the rear springs for new ones and also the front springs for new ones. The car still is inclined towards the drivers side. Any sugestions ? Thanks Jose |

I have the same issue and the height of the axle on both sides is equal. So that,s not it. Curious for ideas, too Mike |

I mean the ends of the leaf springs of course. Axle is obviously on the same height if the tires are the same ;-) Mike |

While the rear axle is the same on both sides, the front may not be equal.... In addition, it is possible that the body is higher on one side than the other, if the rubber or fiber gasket is missing , between the body and the frame mounts, on one side.... Finally, one of the rear corner bolts may be loose, or have less gasket material, and , when tightened, the body will twist enough to look crooked. It would only take a little extra gap on one side , to make an obvious difference.... Take a magnetic level , and place it on the rear cross-member (under the apron)....If it is level, with all tires at the same pressure, than your problem has to be the body....If it is off the "0", by more than a needle width, than the problem is in the suspension.( Or , heaven forbid, a twist in the frame!) If the chassis is level, place the level on top of the rear body bulkhead...the difference will tell you how much twist is in the body, (if that is the problem)... Can be corrected with shims under the body hold-down bolts. Anyway, that's how I would approach the problem. Edward |

Put bigger tires on the drivers side? I couldn't resist. Peter 54 TF |

Jose, Edward has posted a very good start list of things to check,, but it is still a bit unclear from your posting,,, is it both the front and rear of the car that has a lean?? You could also start taking some measurements from the ground the same point on each side of the car,,I would start with somethng easy, like the ends of the bumpers,, or the bumper bolts,, this might help in figuring out what is not right,,, SPW |

You might check the measurement between the steering knuckle and links. Compare this to the other side. I've seen where the steel bushing was inserted and the link turned flattening the threads. Mike |

Lots of good points to check, thx for the ideas. Mike |
