MG TD TF 1500 - Lucas headlight bulb....

Noticed tonight that i have blown a low beam passenger side filiment...
I have those Lucas tripod lamps.... the bulb is really large and has:
RIVAL
12v
60/36W
Made in England

on it.... anyone know of a replacement? Noticed that Moss has a tripod repro and bulb... think it might fit?

If you can't find one anywhere, try Octagon Motor Group in Vancouver (1-800-459-0251) I have used them for many years and restorations and they always seem to have that elusive part that doesn't seem to be available elsewhere. Great to deal with and very fast response.

Love the postings on the rebuild of your TD. I have followed it with interest as I have just completed my restoration of my 1950 TD..

Picked up two bulbs at Paul Montgomery's today... the replacement bulb is a different shape, but the same base....
They however are 45/40 watt instead of 60/35... darn, and my lights were brighter on high beam then any car I have driven..... at least they will be a bit brighter on low beam.....

Think I found the bulb on the "Holden" web site... seems to be the right shape for the Tripod head lamps I have installed. It is only listed as a RHD bulb however. Anyone know if the little notch on the base is the only difference between the RHD and LHD units?( I can always file another on the opposite side).

From their site:
12v 60/40w Right Hand Drive
Part number: LLB452
Double contact 60/40 watts for 12 volt Right Hand Drive BPF type headlamps requiring a Bulb with a 50 mm diameter base

Gord,

As far as I know, a tungsten filament can't distinguish between left and right, but the optics of the headlamp glass can.

Why don't you fit Halogens?

Whew.... first time I have driven at night with the new bulbs... arrggghhhh. I'm sure they are "dipping left" instead of right (or one of them is)... on low beams there is a huge dark spot in the middle of the road and bright light going off to the left and some to the right. On high beams they go directly forward, but cut off about 20 feet in front of the car... thank goodness for the fog and driving lamp. Have sent emails to two or three places but haven't heard anything.
Anyone have tripods with the 60 watt halogen... results?
