MG TD TF 1500 - MG TD and Race Car Drivers

I am the new owner of TD/C20233, a true matching numbers Mark II - TD3/20503. The wife and nephew of the PO (he passed away due to cancer - that's how I became the new owner) tell the story that this car from western New York since at least 1962 (I have photographs of the cars NY registration sticker on the windshield and sticker on the license plate) was raced at Watkins Glen by the PO's uncle, whose name I have.

Is there a racing ledger of car drivers and their car numbers whom raced at Watkins Glen in the late 50's and 60"s?.

The uncle's home was located a mere 2.5 hours driving time to the race track so the story might very well be true.

Photographs of the cars interior from 1963 show two (2) circular plaques on the glove box but unfortunately I can not read the information on the plaques.

The TD was completely restored in the mid 90's and the whereabouts of these plaques are now unknown. Bummer!

So does anyone have an idea or lead of how to verify the racing history of this TD solely based on the drivers name and the above car numbers or license plate number? It would be neat to include racing documentation with the vintage photographs of this car.

Thanks, Tim

PS - Tom Lange - I would like to be included in your Mark II registry. Please send a PM as to what information you want.

Can you please advise some pointers or links as to T type racing among the pages of the website?

I do not know where to start.

Rod: Start here:

Then you can look at sub types like MGTD, mgtf etc.

I am putting something together that encompasses racing and a lot more in the early 1950's but its not ready yet. I have only been working on it for 10 years but I am getting very close to a first version.

Its pretty encompassing but at the same time barely scratches the surface and its focused on America only.

I am looking for MG vintage race clubs, world wide, that allow Roller lifter camshafts.
I am in the process of producing a camshaft that will outperform the B&G 102 full race camshaft.

Google chrome threw up a big warning flag of the site infected with malware virus ...not to continue or risk the consequences of ....so I stopped.
MG LaVerne

McAfee Site Advisor gives the site a safe rating.

I found the site fascinating. My wife has always known that her father, who died while she was still a little girl, raced in Italy’s Mille Miglia but she didn’t know much more than that. I looked up his name and found that he raced in 1947, '48, '49, and '50. His best showing was in 1948 when he finished in 64th place, dead last among the finishers but not so bad when you consider he was in a tiny Fiat and that racing greats Alberto Ascari in a Maserati and Tazio Nuvolari in a Ferrari were among the many who didn't finish the race that year.

Tim,
The International Motor Racing Research Center is located in Watkins Glen.
See: http://www.racingarchives.org/collections.php

Their racing library includes programs from most all the races held there (and many other tracks) throughout the '60s. You could call and ask if they have entry lists on file, too.

Good luck in your efforts.

Thanks to Chris and Manley for leads. I will explore the links and make a phone call to Watkins Glenn. Tim
