MG TD TF 1500 - MG TD ENGINE & FIREWALL COLOR & rebuild advice

A friend is rebuilding his mg td engine. He has aked me about the correct engine color and if the firewall was originally painted the same color as the car.

I told him the engine color is the same as the MGB Marroon from Mosss, and the fire wall was never painted the car color but gloss black.... Is this correct?

Also, for the rebuild is there anything advice you all could give on extra power and curing the rear seal oil leakage?

Thanks

The firewall is body color.
Bill Hirsch has the correct marroon engine color. The Moss paint isn't the best quality.

The T series red engine paint is not the same color as the Austin engine udsed in the MGB, As Dan says it is more Maroon, and you are best served by the Bill Hirsch paint.

The Moss T series engine paint is the correct color, they also sell the MGA/MGB color paint.

Tony, search the archives about the rear seal leak- there are volumes there. Also a lot about performance. Of course camshaft, bore diameter, compression ratio, valve size, porting, etc. all come into play- volumes could be written about that. You can build a little better that stock engine or a screaming race motor- it just depends what you want. What w the car be used for- mountains, highways, local roads, etc. make a difference, including rear axle ratio. George

... furthermore, the Moss paint is glossy, whereas, the original engine paint is dull/flat, etc.

Moss Paint discolors if it comes in contact with antifreeze. Enough contact and it will eat the paint down to the metal.

Do not recommend this paint.

Hi Tony,

Napa have a fast dry engine enamel identified as " #206 Ford Red". It is a very bright red with a hard glossy finish that is easy to keep clean. It has not discoloured with fluid leakage over 50 years of use on two engine blocks. Your friend can choose several colours depending on what he wants to see when he opens the bonnet.
