MG TD TF 1500 - MG TD Paint Codes

Does anyone know the paint code or other identifier for the creamy white paint used on mg tds. I have a 53 and want to paint it this color. Austin Healey called it Old English White. Not sure what MG called it.

Search the archives, volumes in there somewhere about paint codes. The original codes really don't work any more due to discontinuation of the various pigments. Likely someone here will have a modern equivalent code that is close. You can also go to a paint jobber and look through the color chips, pick a couple and have them sprayed out. George

J.J. According to MGCARS, the color is Ditzler 81271. That is what I put on my 53 TD and am happy with it.

Bill, how long ago was it painted? George

The chart here shows codes from 5 paint manufacturers:

Read all of the Notes below as well.

The color is Ivory, very similar to what later was called "Pale Primrose." It's a yellow more than a white color.

Interesting. There has been much written in the last few years that these codes give colors not even close to the orginal color. Maybe it depend on the color? Never used them but check this out: http://www.tcpglobal.com/autocolorlibrary/default.aspx

Enter ahmg for car make (Austin Healy/MG) and the year and they show original chip pages. They show both an Old English White and an Ivory, which looks warmer. George

Good day Mr. Cook:

I used a paint listed by BMC as "Sequoia Cream", for my TC. It is of the ivory hue rather than a stark white. I am probably out of order here, but I cannot recall a brilliantly white coloured M.G. Sequoia Cream is also listed for the TD.

The current ICI number(s) I have are: 4138 or 2700 but the latter number is rather suspect as I have not seen what represents.

A Ditzler equivalent is given as 80203 whilst Rinshed-Mason number list it as BM 127.

I will try and send a photo, but I have just installed a new desk top, with Windows 7, and I am having the deuce of a time getting back into the swing of things.

I only recently learned how to crop the size of photographs, to meet the BBS criteria, using my old gear. So, I may not succeed in my endeavour with the new kit.

If you are interested in a photograph, contact me at: carminowe@shaw.ca and I may be able to send a photo, as an e-mail attachmen, once I get the hang of this new system.

Cheers for now then; respectfully:
Jack Emdall, TD3191, New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada.
