MG TD TF 1500 - MG TD values

I’m a lifer so it does not effect me...

“I wouldn’t trade it for a TC or a TF,” Just working on a TC or TF & I would rather poke a sharp stick in my eye, compared to a TD IMO! And the TD / TF are road worthy cars today, even @ highway speeds IF " Dialed in correctly" with more power and a 4.3 final drive ratio. Also both the TD & TF with a front anti sway bar or stabilizer bar will handle like a real sports car, at least on a smooth road, even if a little more harsh compared to today's sports cars. And much more fun to DRIVE! Even more fun then an MGB again IMO!

Len, how is working on a TC harder than a TD? If anything it's easier. TF I can understand, due to lack of accessibility in engine bay and under dash.

Cam photo looks familiar...

TD values have been dropping for quite some time. It's simply a matter of supply and demand. Let them slip I say, so more people will drive them instead of collecting as an investment. I've been watching pre-war and TA/TB/TC M.G.s disappear from the road as they get more valuable, and it's depressing. Most pre-war are pretty much rich man's toys at this point. TDs and a few others (midgets, 1100, Z-Type, etc) are the last cheap M.G.s. There are no cheap solid axle cars left except ratty TCs.
Steve Simmons

You are right Steve it is a matter of supply and demand but related to potential owners rather than cars. T series values were at a peak 25 years ago when people, like myself, who as boys could remember them parked in the street found themselves with enough money to buy and restore one. The same is now happening to 1970s cars. Look at the value of a Ford Escort, for the price of an early one you can buy two TDs. Go to a car show and see all the 40 year olds crowding around the "Modern Classics".

Problem is that modern"classics" in my opinion are more to do with marketing and hype. Those same people have never sat in let alone driven a car such as our MGs to understand the view and seat of the pants driving experience. Fumes and all in some cases before we get on to a TA/TC steering experience. Get in a slide in one of those and the hairs on the back of the neck rise. It's just plain exhilarating- especially in the snow..

The MG crowd is long in tooth. Us Baby Boomers, are getting fewer and our taste for old cars is quite different. The next generation ( a.k.a. the Cry Baby Boomers) are looking for muscle cars.
If they did buy and MG, they'd "drop a Chevy" in it and paint it black.

My 2 cents worth.

Generational thing. We love 'em because we grew up with them.

Love driving my TD. The article said something about being Unreliable. I wonder if the writer ever had, or drove one. My little TD is one of the most reliable cars that I have ever owned, but then again i drive it ...a lot... in the summer months. Mine is a well sorted driver and Thanks to the vendors almost every service part is available.

I most likely have more in it than its worth, so I plan on taking it out in trade. I plan to drive the wheels off of it.

I have had it in a number of Youth driving experiences, and there is always a line up, and the new manual shift drivers have no problem getting it down the road.

OK, I am biased.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but anyone who says an MG TD isn't reliable has no idea how to work on old cars. You'd have a hard time finding anything from the same time that period is potentially more reliable.
