MG TD TF 1500 - Muffler/silencer orientation

Gents, this TF project car came with a SS muffler, new from Moss and made in England. The input and output pipes on the unit itself are offset. My question is what is the orientation of the offset when the whole thing is bolted down? The header pipe isn't quite the right location but it will fit.

I'm also a little concerned that the muffler is pretty close to the petrol pipe...and concern here about atomizing the petrol??
Tnx

Terry, the off-center aspect of the inlet pipe is to allow you to rotate the muffler so that it is up out of harm's way. You just don't want to get too close to the floorboards. Some put a thin piece of insulating material on the underside of the floorboard at that point. Be certain to loosen the front support bracket that connects the front pipe to the gearbox and back off on the exhaust pipe flange nuts while you're tweaking it all into place. Tighten the flange nuts first, when you're tightening up the system.

Thanks Bud, I've tweaked it as you said and that rotates the muffler up close to the floor board so, I'll put some insulation there. I think I'll also insulate the fuel pipe that runs close by too. I've heard that TF's have a problem with vaporization.

Terry - The TF 1500 with the fuel pump in the rear should have less of a problem with vaporization than the TC or TD, since the fuel is under pressure once it leaves the pump. Cheers - Dave

Terry,
I was a little uneasy with fuel pump location as well ...so I moved the pump on mine. Couple of reasons for me to do this:
Location of exhaust, Added 2 stainless steel "tubs" to bottom of my boot area on either side of diffy for spare part storage, and I did away with the 3 piece boot floor as it leaked and rusted side curtains/made boot wet, opted for a single "sealed" piece of marine grade plywood there. Only downside is that it is slightly harder to check rear-end fluid as I have to do that from under now.
Cheers,
