MG TD TF 1500 - My beloved TD has to go!

Well here it is. The TD must go. After owning this car for 14 years (a life long dream), the economy has forced me to bite the bullet! I know that this is considered a travesty by some, but I put the car on ebay. I need to maximise my exposure and get the most that I can out of it! If anyone is interested, the item number is 140723707527. Hopefully I will get enough out to make my grieving worthwhile. If things turn around for me, maybe there will be another one in my future; it's in my blood!

This is unbelievably sad. Are things really so bad in America( the richest country on Earth and the land of opportunity etc) that any person would have to sacrifice their real passion? I certainly don't wish to be impertinent or over inquisitive but is it so expensive to keep a small car on the road over there? It's very upsetting and I feel for you( and it's been a long.long time since I had my TC-like I mean,A LONG TIME and never did manage to get a TD).I have 2 cars the other being an MGF which I only put on the road for 6 months of the year but can actually do it and here in what must be the single most over-taxed country in the World,if not the Universe. Very very sad to hear your news. MB

Sorry to hear about selling your car. It would be a great driver for an MG enthusiast. I know where you are coming from. I'm retired and the way things are going I might have to sell my TD in a year or two if things don't turn around. I hope you get the max money.

It is tough when you have to sacrifice things you love with monetary value to fund the things that are essential. My two boats went that way in 2008. I felt fortunate to keep the TD.

Thanks to everyone for your encouraging words. What a great group! I have to say, this BBS is usually the first place that I check into every morning. Dave, I too enjoy our association, and when we did non-MG business, that was great too...you are a true gentleman! Anyway, the car is getting close to the reserve and part of me wants the bidding to stall...what a conflict!

Steve, I had one of those get rid of the TD moments years ago when money was tight, so I put a for sale sign on the windshield, and keep it in the garage. No one seen it so it did't sell, lucky me. Maybe if it doesn't meet the reserve, it's a God thing. Anyway, best of luck.

Kind of hope it does not hit reserve ...we would miss your company.
I got as far as writing the ad ...but decided not to list it and found other ways to cut back instead.

I look on ebay all the time and it makes a big difference if you have the space between mg td versus MGTD. If you do put in an ad try to get both versions inserted in topic so it can be easily searched. Just a FYI Russ

AGAIN...Thanks to all for your good wishes. I certainly will continue to visit this BBS. By the way, if anyone knows of anybody that might be interested, I just lowered the reserve...it is very close. I really need to do this, unfortunately.

I'm awfully sorry to read this thread. I have succeeded in living within my SS income plus a bit-from my investments. But from the comments, a lot of guys are not that fortunate.

I hope you can find a buyer that appreciates you position and will let you participate in the enjoyment of the "T" series for as long as you live.

I'm almost 86 and am facing the same problem.

Steve, I saw your car sold - although I am a bit shocked at the price - I would have wished for it to sell for quite a bit more ! Hope this helps you through times of need and do keep in touch with the forum. Maybe things change in the future
