MG TD TF 1500 - Mystery Cover Plate?

While I had my valve cover off, I noted the brass plate with the valve clearance indicated. However, instead of .012 which would be correct for my engine, it saya .015. I could understand an older cover with .019 on the plate being used, but where in heck does the .015 come from? Were plates available at one time where you could have your own preference stamped on it? Thanks.

Larry - The XPAG engine was numerous applications, including Morris, MG Y series, MG T series, early MG Magnettes, Wolseleys, and the list goes on. The rocker cover that is on your engine is the same as the one on the engine in our TD (I finally got a rocker cover with the correct clearance stamped on it. I would recommend that you get "Living With The XPAG, The Morris 'X' Series Engine by Neil Cairns from BritBook at: http://www.britbooks.com/index.htm Ask for catalog number MG710. This is an excellent booklet that describes all aspects of the XPAG engines.

Another booklet that Neil wrote is "Engines for MGs, Their Story after 1935. This booklet covers the XPAG series, the BMC A series and hte BMC B series (the latter two engines were used in the MG midgets and the MGAs & MGBs respectively. this booklet is free if you e-mail Neil and ak for it. You can find Neil's e-mail address by going onto the Y Type Register web site at: http://www.mgytypes.org Cheers - Dave
