MG TD TF 1500 - National Drive it Day

Yesterday was National Drive it Day here in the UK. Classic car owners were encouraged to get out and show off their vehicles so my daughter and I set off in Patsy Two, in typical April weather, to join a tulip rally sixty miles south of our home. This short video was taken during one of the lighter showers;

Not long after that video was shot the left hand wiper arm and blade decided they had had enough of this insane escapade and parted company with Patsy. I was forbidden by my navigator, on health and safety grounds, from pulling over on to the hard shoulder to try and recover the parts!
Eventually the weather improved and we were half way round the route when the navigator uttered that phrase dreaded by all T type owners “Isn’t she running well?” Five minutes later the water temperature gauge dropped to zero! Investigation under the bonnet (hood!) revealed that the pipe from the sender unit had come into contact with the dynamo front pulley and had worn through, releasing the inert gas used to transmit temperature to the gauge. I am sure all you chaps out there have made sure the pipe is properly secured away from spinning parts but it might be worth checking.
Here is a picture of the entrants to our Drive It day. Arrived home without further incident after 175 fun miles. Don’t you just love these cars!!

Looks like a lovely collection of cars for a tulip rally. I couldn't round up any old cars but did get some modern convertables out to play in our tulip fields here (see post about roadster-ey in the northwest).

Thanks for the heads up on the sending unit. I will be checking mine tonight!

Was with you ..in sprit anyway!
28 degress here yesterday...cold ride.
200+ miles to a "local car show" and to "test" my new V/C & T/C gaskets. Gaskets did not "pass the test"...leaking, lost a quart there and one on the way back. (Had just spent a week cleanning all the oil off engine and bottom of the car.)
Just as we got near home "Izzy" died...no engine , no lights , no horn...nothing. No worries we were on a hill and could coast home if we crash one "4-way stop". I owe a neighbor a thank you (maybe a few beers) as we went sailing round a corner at the 4 way he was sitting at. In hind-sight ..not too smart!
(But made it in the driveway)
At the local show "Best Import" went to a VW with some "20's"on it, crooked doors, and painted bumpers. Shocked me as there was a prisien Izetta there ...concourse level car...perfect in every way!
Runner up went to a fiberglass TD w/ a pinto motor and 2 speed automatic.
The wife won the 50/50 so her cash winnings made the trip home "warmer".

And yes I do love these cars...even though I heard a woman tell her son about the TF "That car is 5 years old!" Must be that "new-math" thing I heard about?
(My paint is 3 times that old!)

Mike, great picture!
David, hope nothing serious, but sounds like a prince of darkness attack, so hopefully fixeable

Nope ...just stupid! I let little kids sit in my car at shows. Makes their day after being told all day "don't touch"...M.G.'s are for touching, jumping on the seats, and playing with the steering wheel! IMHO
Because sometimes they play with the buttons I use the battery cut off to make sure I stay out of "launch mode" ...just didn't get it tightened down all the way when we left. That last turn it came "Full lose". Once I was in the driveway I figured it out.

Note to self:...next time your ignition light is blinking, get out and check the cut-off switch! At least the light works!
