MG TD TF 1500 - Need pictorial detail of exhaust mount
My TD had a pretty badly cobled exhaust system. only 1 hanger and the whole things was welded up. So I have a new system, 2 hangers, gasket, and the tranny mount and clamp but no good idea how it goes up. No pics to clearly show it that I have anyhow. If someone has a good pic to share that would help. Getting excited, maybe 3 more weeks and I try to drive it for the first time... |

I have my body off, so easy to take some pics. I made three, one of each connection. Hopefully this will give you the answers. Greetings, Huib

Great pics, but I believe we still need one for the rear hanger.. SPW |

Huib, nice pictures. Larry, I have a few on my website, http://www.dbraun99.com/mgtd15470/ look under the mg td15470 Restoration » Engine XPAG TD2 15613 » Exhaust System section. The extension made of hard rubber at the rear of the system allows the exhaust pipe to clear the side curtain box. I was able to reduce the size of that extension by about an inch when I got the tub in place and measured the exact clearence needed. The first time around was a guess based on a friend's car. warmly, dave |

Dave, I had been through a lot of your site looking for this and didn't see it. Got it now though. Dave, Huib, Thanks to you all, My questions have been answered. I don't know if I have bolts on the tranny for the bracket though. I hope they are metric thread and not BSW or something. Tonight, putting u joints back on the drive shaft. Tomorrow, hopefully Moss will have the pinion seal to me they forgot to ship in the big shipment so this weekend will be spent putting the whole rear end and suspension back on the car. Gettin close. |

Larry - "I don't know if I have bolts on the tranny for the bracket though. I hope they are metric thread and not BSW or something." I will check on a spare transmission I have in the basement and let you know. There is a good chance that they are BSF. Cheers - Dave |

Larry - The bolts in question are 5/16 BSF. they are available from Moss or British tools & Fasteners or, if you will send me the length that you need, I may have a couple on hand fore the cost of postage. Cheers - Dave |

Dave's right of course about the 5/16 BSF bolts for the bracket into the gearbox. Larry, hope the u-joint project went well. I'm sure you saw the flange reliefs to clear the grease nipples, although they don't clear by much. The flanges have to be aligned front and back for optimal wear and smoothness. I also had my propshaft balanced after I assembled it. Pretty exciting... now that you are so close! A drive in about three weeks? Just about the time I'll bed mine down for the winter. warmly, dave |
