MG TD TF 1500 - Newb to the site

Hello all, I just wanted to introduce myself. Ive been looking for a good forum for info on TDs I have a 53 TD.
JTS Shook

Where in Colorado are you located? I'm in Cortez and I have a '53 TD as well.
A. R. Todd

Welcome. You have found one of the better forums. Great group and we don't mind questions. We don't even get all that upset when it is a topic we have beat to death. But the site also has a archive and a search of that is a pretty good start for many great tidbits of information.
Bruce Cunha

JTS, welcome! you have stumbled upon a great, very active forum. regards, tom

I would like to expand on what Bruce said there... It's not that we forgot that we beat the topic to death already that keeps us from getting upset... We just REALLY like to talk T.

Welcome JTS!

Speak for yourself Alex :-) - Those of us who are older do, in fact forget - uh, what were we talking about? Cheers - Dave

Hello A.R. I'm celebrating my 2nd anniversary with this group and they are truly amazing . Welcome aboard . John

JTS, I too am in Colorado. Crested Butte (if you know where that is). I have a '50 TD. Without the aid of this group I could never have restored that car! You will also hear from a prominent member in Grand Junction shortly I am sure. Where are you?
efh Haskell

I live in Fruita. However I have been having conversations the last couple of months with a fellow in Grand Junction who is about to do a full restoration on his late fathers TD. I know of one TD in Grand Junction that never gets taken out and think there might be two others. Maybe it's time we formed an LBC club for the western slope. I'd bet money JT is on the front range.

Anyway...welcome aboard JT....we are a visual group.....

Have a peek here ....

Hope to see your mug and car soon.

L E D LaVerne

I'll join LaVerne. Can we meet in at your shop?
(Fruita <> GJ, sorry)

Welcome aboard, this is the best board on the net. A lot of us have met one another at various GOF's and have become good friends. LaVerne's garage would be a good place to meet. Only wish it was closer to MN. I would most likely be a regular..
TOM Maine

I agree with all the above.

JT,

Put me on the list of those with a '53. Mine is TD 24953. I'm curious what your car number/build date is. It's kind of fun to see how close the cars would have been to each other at the factory. Oh, and welcome, I'm still a newbie myself.
Kirk Trigg

Hello and welcome JT
A really great group of folks here, more than ready to help with advise and the occasional part as well. This forum is my go-to site for accurate information both in real time and in the archives as well.
Oh and I have a 53 as well, TD25143.

LED, I thought I was in the gallery with TD25009 (11 Feb 1953) but didn't see me in your link. I'll add me soon.

Another Newb...I have just joined the MGcars BBS and have a few questions and comments. I'll start slowly and will post only after using the "search" function for possible answers. I live in Omaha, NE, USA and have a 1952 TD which I am starting to restore.

(A) Is there a roster of mg td owners in the USA? If so, how do I access it.
(B) Moss Motors sells an excellent DVD regarding the rebuild of the SU carburetors (carburettors ?) which is my first task. It appears I need at least one Whitworth socket for the job. This leads to ---
(C) Which Whitworth tools are required, as a minimum, to build the carbs?
(D) Which Whitworths are necessary to restore the entire car?
(E) Which SAE or metric tools can be substituted for Whitworths? Whitworths are very expensive in the US and the shipping charges from the UK begin in the double didgits.

Thanks for your help. Bob

GO to British Tools, they have a bargain room that they sell off and it is very reasonable. Their other prices are well within line compared to others.
TOM Maine

Can anyone out here explain to me how LeVerne accessed all those pictures of T types and their owners? It is on this thread. Is it off site? I can't find it on the home page. Best I can get is 1 pic at a time in the gallery. Immersing in the culture, sandman.
smb brainsky

Welcome JTS, I have a 53 also. I'm sure you will come to appreciate this forum as with all the vast combined knowledge to help you work through the issues we have with these little cars. I know I really appreciate all of them especially during my recent rebuild.
