MG TD TF 1500 - Oil/Oel Leak

I am absolutely determined to have an mgtf that does not leak oil(oel). OK, if you are through laughing maybe you can answer a question for me? I have a couple of drops of oil dripping from what seems to be a cotter-type of pin that protrudes from the back of the oil sump (please refer to picture). All I know of this 'pin' is that it has something to do with the screw-type of forward oil thrower and that really nasty things happen if one tries to plug the hole that the pin goes through. My plan is to fasten a small catch-basin or something to the pin that will catch the oil drips and then I can clean it every so often.
So, can anyone tell me what the purpose is of this pin and why the hole?

Thanks much.

The purpose of the hole is to keep the bellhousing from filling up with oil and ruining the clutch. The cotter pin allows the oil to drip straight down so it doesn't run all over the bottom of the pan. Or it rattles/wiggles to keep the hole from blocking up with debris. Blocking up is bad in general! Try solving the cold fusion problem instead of curing the XPAG oil leakage- you have a better chance of success. BTW, look for the threads about drip pans. George

The hole is to allow the oil that does leak from the rear seal to drain from the bell housing so it doesn't foul the clutch. The cotter key is to keep the hole from becoming plugged.
