MG TD TF 1500 - Ouch.

Looks a little crooked and warped from the backside.

From the looks of the two fuel lines, it's probably a MK II

The bubble on the right hood panel is barely visible. Along with the fuel lines, I would say it is a Mark II. Need to check chassis number to be positive.

The steering wheel is exactly like the one on my TD which I've refinished. Never seen one quite like it, and now I've seen two. Bid on the car- the steering wheel will clean up right good. By the way John, did I ever mention that I got the car in Wichita in 1987? Before that it was in my garage for about five years in Andover.

Dave: Mine is the same but does not have the rivets on the wood rim. Its just glued. Does yours have the rivets?

WOW - What a great ride ! Lets see now, needed: fender, tank, tire carrier, FRAME, tub, probably the rear end and gearbox, $15K just to get it running !!!! You have got to be an idiot to buy this car to try and fix it up, EVEN if you HAD the parts to fix it. Wizzzzzard

The only reason I could see buying this is if you had a car with an engine conversion that you wanted to return to original spec, and used this one as a parts car. Normally, I think it's kind of sad when MG T-Series cars are 'parted out', but this one is pretty far gone. Maybe its best use is to restore another TD.

In this case, the Mark II bits make it a little more desirable. But it would have to be cheap.

Hi again Chris, I love your site by the way.

I think our wheels are slightly different. My slots seem wider at their narrow end, and the center area seems a bit smaller diameter. If you look at my pictures, you can see the assembly order, including a final aluminum ring on top of the center ring of the wheel. There are nine screws holding the center hub on. And yes, mine does have the rivets. I remember reading (probably here!) that in sport use, the wheels were required to have rivets so many inches apart so that if the driver's chest impacted and destroyed the wheel in an accident, it the wood would fracture into smaller pieces, and not pierce his chest. Nice thought, huh?

On this car I do see the two fuel lines, and perhaps the bonnet bulge, but I don't see the proper carbs (they look too small to me) and I'm not sure when they started using the chrome slats and black MG badge on the radiator on the Mk II. Just a thought.

Saw this one when it first went on...that rear view really is scary!!!
A real shame to see such damage... I now watch my 'rear view' a bit more...although, I can't get much more paranoid then I am already!!!

Wow!

I just got back from a drive. I had a lady in a Suburban following right on my back bumper at 55 MPH. The damn thing filled my whole mirror! I kept thinking, " I wonder if she is going to crush my little car?" I guess I know what it would look like after that picture....

What is it about these things that make peope tailgate... seems to happen just in the TD. The scary part is when they tailgate 'and' chat on a cel phone....
Think i will carry a can of spray foam insulation and just reach around and fill up their rads!!!!

Group - This tailgating issue is getting more and more common, but there is a real easy soloution. Just slow down to 10 MPH. They get *^#$%@^%#, pass you and hit the oncoming tractor trailer, YES, cell phone still in hand ! ! ! Wizzzzzzard

My '50 TD once looked a lot worse than this one at one time. It was hit broadside in 1978 on the left side by a large Oldsmobile. It literally bent the car in the middle destroying the whole left side and bent the frame. The Oldsmobile was at fault (blew through a stop sign). Fortunately, the insurance adjustor representing the Oldsmobile was an Englishman!

When he saw the car he said, and I quote: "A great tragedy has occurred here, and in the name of the Queen, we will spare no expense returning the car to a respectable condition."

It took two years just to find all the parts necessary to repair the damage and another year for a shop to put it back together.

I run a lucas reversing lamp on the back of my car with a clear lens on a switch (pointed at eye-level). This helps at night. (It was real effective when I first installed it with the "landing light" a friend gave me from a lear-jet...two problems...was slightly "taxing" on the old girls genny, and the highway patrol told me "lose it" after lighting up the freeway behind me for about 2 miles one night.) It DID get the idiot in the SUV off my ar*e!
In the daytime I wonder if a sqirt-gun full of something looking much like "used chewing tobaco" might be a good thing to carry! Just kind "toss" the old bean back and pretend to spit!

TD/Fer's - Well I forgot about this and was gonna bid $8K cause the seller said TD's are bringing $30K. With my $8K bid and $15K to fix it up that leaves me with $7K profit. OOOOOPs, I forgot about my labor ! Boy am I GLAD i didn't bid on this piece, and I see it didn't sell either. I can't believe you people bid over $3K for this motor/front fenders and a windscreen. I still have that Florida swamp land and tame gators for sale. Wizzzzard

With prices now days, 3000 would have been a fair price... That looks like one that would have to be parted out...or you would have to find a new frame...
At least $6000 or $7000 or more in parts. An engine transmission if running would get your investment back...!

Gordon,

Amen to that!
Want to do your great-gradchildren a favor right now ...start looking for where "ocean-front" will be once the ocean is about 3/4 feet higher than it is now!
