MG TD TF 1500 - Pinion positioning fixture
Hi Everyone, Does anyone have the dimensions of the Rear Axle Pin ion Positioning Fixture for setting up the pinion in the CWP casing in my TD. In preparation for the installation of a 5 speed box with a Hi Gear Engineering kit I need to take out the 4.3 MGA CWP and revert to a 4.875 ratio as I doubt the 1250cc XPAG will pull it especially here in hilly Wales. Any info very much appreciated. Thanks, David |

David, Why put in the 5-speed when you now have the same ratio in Hi as the the 5-speed will give you with the 4.85. The other gears are not that different for general driving. First is usable with the $.3 Spend the money on tuning the engine to get more HP and the hills are a breeze. in 3rd. Don H |

Dave, I have a 5 speed box and just fitted a 4.3 axle. It drives fine and the first gear is now usable. Before the 4.3 axle I would need to pull away in 2nd. You should be OK on the hills - just drop it a cog if it starts to pull too bad. You will enjoy the highway driving as well. JMHO Rod. |

Hi Don, I know that the ratios are more or less the same as the type 9 but I have some issues with the gearbox and as we are going to tour Germany next year I would like my wife to share some of the driving and the current gearbox is not as user friendly as the type 9. Rod, Following your experience with the transmission set up that you have on your car I intend to leave the 4.3 in place and see how it performs. Many thanks to you both for your input, David. |

David, I have a 4.3 rear and Datsun 5 speed. Think of 5th gear as an overdrive which is great for the flats on the M5 and autobahns. Now if you would add a blower then you would REALLY have something. Did that. Jim |
