MG TD TF 1500 - Points and Condenser

I've seen a post on this site somewhere of points and condensers that are available for other vehicles over the counter that will work in my TD, but can't seem to find it. Could someone assist me in this?

Thanks,
Bill

Bill,
The Dizzy cap is suposidly the same as a Massy Ferguson cap, but I haven't had time to follow through on the search....

It was posted within the last month....think Gordon Clark had the part number for the cap....

Bill, the points and condenser are very generic items and were used in quite a few cars of the same vintage as ours. The problem is that those cars aren't around any more either. NAPA has a catalog of ignition parts for older cars. Bud

This is from a previous post, by Bud I think.

"Have NAPA order Echlin CS201 Contact Assembly and EP41 Rotor. The Ignition Coil is their IC64. Condenser is not available from them anymore."

Bill,

I no longer have points and a condenser - I have a pertronix unit, something I strongly recommend for you, but if you're staying with points and a condensr, I'm told that Blue Streak is the ONLY product to use.

You can now get these from Jeff Schermer at Advance Distributors - see:- http://www.advanceddistributors.com/index.htm

Jeff can also provide you with a Pertronix unit and a new non-carbon distributor cap.

As for the part number for the Ferguson Tractor distributor cap, its TE20 and available at many farm supply houses.

Gordon, I've been back and forth on the Pertronix unit so with condensers getting harder to find, I decided to order the Pertronix from LBCARCO. After I get it in, I will put the points and condenser in the tool box.

Thanks all

Bill,
Get two...one as a spare...I've had my Pertronixs in my MGB for 13 years...in the TD for 8 years...BUT...they either work or they don't...have a spare just in case...

Gordon C.,,, Thanks for the dizzy number !!!

My 2 "shillings" worth:
Been running Pertronix / Lucas sports coil, Bumble-Bee wires & MF Dizzy purchased at a tractor supply house,(closed now) for 10 years on the TF. Never a problem ...very happy with this set-up.

I do still carry "spare" points, condenser, dizzy cap, rotor & wires in the car and have another in the garage, but have never used. (except as a "loaner" to others still running points ...3x's now!)
Cheers,

After 3 pertronix units failing in 6 years, & the last one not not covered under warranty, I will stick with points. Any condenser from any engine can be used, as they all have the same value; 1/4 micro farad. +- .002 or so.
