MG TD TF 1500 - Radiator branch pipe ?
Good Morning On two of the 1952 mg td’s I’ve owned the radiator branch pipe bypass has been pinched over and welded shut. A plate was bolted over the branch pipe bypass outlet on the thermostat housing, blanking it off. Dose anyone know if this was something done at the factory or done by a previous owner? It almost looks like it was done at the factory and it was on both 1952 TD’s . Both TD’s ran fine and do not over heat, I’m just curious as to why this was done. Thanks John |

They have eliminated the bypass circuit that was intended to circulate coolant while the thermostat is closed. The original thermostat has a sleeve that rises up and blocks the passage in the housing when the thermostat opens. Chances are, the old thermostat were replaced or just removed. |
