MG TD TF 1500 - Radiator Identification plates
Is anyone out there familiar with the numbering pattern that would have been hand-stamped in the two fields at the bottom off the brass plate attached to the top of the TD radiator tank(the one that reads "Manufactured by Morris Motors LTD, Radiators Branch, Osberton Works, Oxford? Also, does anyone still have the original core in their TD Radiator that retains the brass "Core Patent Plate", like the one shown below. If so, can you tell me what the numbers on your plate read, specifically the hand-stamped ones below the etched numbers? I'd appreciate any feedback on these two questions. Thanks, Jim ![]() |

Jim- I have some high resolution photos of my old radiator and the tag you show is still on the back of the radiator. It has the same patent numbers as you show in you photo plus the word "copper" in the same place. But there are no additional numbers in the blocks below. I can send the photos to you for your use if you would send me your email address. I'm not sure I could answer your first question. Good luck, Roy |

Jim, I have 3 brass plates on the radiator in my TF. On the top of the radiator body is a small circular disc with the numerals 2767 heavily pressed into the brass. On the lip that is on the rear of the radiator body are two rectangular brass plates. One is similar to the one in your photo except that there are no numerals etched on the left hand upper register where yours has 495125. The rest of the plate is the same and along the bottom register is the following: NW3759 04908 The second plate is the "Manufactured by Morris Garages etc..." and along the bottom register the following is punched: ARG0517 412 00536 I hope that this helps. Thanks to all so far who've responded. If any other TD and TF owners have plate information they'd care to share, I'd appreciate it. Jim By the way, Bill in NZ, I think that circular plate might just be an ID plate a radiator shop added to keep track of the radiator while it was in the system. Comments? |
