MG TD TF 1500 - Radiator mounting set
Hi all Have got the steering gear all sorted and back on the chassis, now for the radiator. The Moss catelogue mentions a mounting set which includes spacers to hold the radiator in place. Has anyone a photo or description of the mounting set. I have looked at Dave Braun's website but could not find the required information. Cheers Stuart |

A TD or a TF? Doesn't really matter as both are almost the same. Checked Moss-Europoe catalogue - part 51 is the kit. I'm surprised to read this. Both the TD and the TF are virtual "Mechanno Set" installations, and mounting is pretty straight forward for either. If you buy the kit, it will become obvious. What is difficult, particularly for the TD, is getting the rad in the right position to accomodate the bonnet assembly ... a super time-waster. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

Getting a wrench down in there with the 'back up' nut is also a bit of a time consumer!!!! |

The set is just 4 rubber washers and 4 thin metal retainer rings which I guess are suppose to constrain the rubber from sqishing out. Really bad picture attached hopefully- shows the two nuts/flat washer/then the two rubber donuts (with white mould release powder on them) and the two thin retainer rings.

Gordons, thank you for your feed back and thank you George for the photo. Your comments concerning kit are appreciated, but I am hoping to source something locally instead of waiting a week for parts from interstate, hence the request for photo etc. A question, does one rubber washer go above the support and the other below. I know a stupid answer, but better to ask than put it together wrong. cheers Stuart |

Yes- the rubber sandwiches the mount beam. No reason you couldn't use rubber grommets or sheet rubber cut to size. |

Hi Stuart, I was out of town at a pilot proficiency program. The mount is a rubber grommet which is surrounded by a metal band. One grommet and band go above the bracket and one below, followed by a large washer and then a nut and a locking nut. I believe the nuts are 3/8 BSF. Here is one image from my site of the lower mount. As far as I can tell the grommets' slot cut in the side serve no purpose here, and the metal band is to contain the height of the grommet (and hence the bonnet) if the rubber softens due to contaimination or stress. George and Dave many thanks for info and addition photos. Dave, yes the nuts are 3/8 BSF which no one stocks up here, so I have to order from southern Aust cities (3000km away). Dave, I thought you may have had a photo on your website, just needed to know where to look. A great website by the way and an asset to all of us who are rebuilding TDs. My car, due to limited finances, will when completed be a car for driving, not for showing. Cheers Stuart |

Sorry about the double entry, but our internet connection is playing up. Stuart |

Hi Stuart, Thanks for the compliment. The general format of the website is the first chapter is a summary chapter that shows progress and the final result. The next chapter consists of pictures prior to tear down. From there, each chapter is complete from tear down, restoration of components, and installation of components. Sometimes there are separate chapters for each of these steps, and for simpler items, the pictures flow together in one chapter. Brakes are combind front and rear, for example, while suspension has separate chapters for front and rear. The header across the top tells you how deep you are in the chapters. When you get to a page with a large slide in each chapter tree, you can set up a slide show (it has an adjustable timer), curser through, or use the mouse to click on the right and left side of the pictures. I find it helpful to go into F11 mode which toggles in and out of full screen. There is a help screen. I hope this helps you navigate the site. warmly, dave |
