MG TD TF 1500 - Real or created?

Saw this ebay listing.

Car has MKII tag on the hood, twin fuel pumps and larger carbs, but serial numbers do not appear to show this is a real MK II
Bruce-C

Be nice to have the chassis number...?
gblawson(gordon)

You can barely see the Andrex shock extra links front and rear, the carbs look right (bigger), has the hood bulge. That stuff is just not available laying around, so that would lean toward original. I don't think they put anything in the motor or car serial # until much later to indicate a true MkII (ie. TD3, etc.) George

Speedo is late '53 type not a chronometric type as is the tach so that says that the mileage reported is not correct. They do show the cyl. head number but that does not tell you that the head is a MKII. You would have to measure the valve heads to be sure they have been up-dated to MKII specs.

My TD has the bubble in the right side of the bonnet but it didn't leave Abingdon that way. Ditto the two fuel pumps and dual fuel lines from the tank.

The vin # is the same as the engine #. Of course my car's "official" vin # on the title has both. Funny no picture of the big square plate with the proper chassis #. George

Interesting that the seller makes the point that the steering wheel has no cracks! It is obviously a repro wheel-not marblized!
Steve Tobias

A photo of the large ID plate and the left front chassis dumb iron (bumper support) would certainly answer some questions.

Seller emailed pic of large tag-reads TD/C 6323. Engine # matches. Yet to see chassis stamp. Dan

Now he posted picture with the add. From what is visible in pictures-it looks real. Wonder what reserve is?
Dan Craig

The production record image doesn't show TD/C, just an ordinary TD6323 with Engine XPAG/TD/6562. Chassis stamp would be interesting to see.

Looks to be TD/C on the chassis plate?

Hmm guys a puzzler - My car a genuine MkII TD/C7822 was built on 22 May 1951, I have a photocopy of one page of the factory build diary from TD7808 on 18th May thro to TD7841 part way thro 22 May. In the middle of the page is a batch of 10 MkIIs TD/C7817 to TD/C7826. This leads me to guess that the factory built batches of MkIIs?

On to this car - TD6322 and TD6324 either side of the one for sale are both 'ordinary' TDs. Therefore a guess that TD6323 is also an 'ordinary'. BUT a hellava lot of trouble to go to to fake a MKII.

As others have identified a pic of the dumb iron should help, but if PO has faked ID plate then could fake dumb iron?

Just my 2 pennorth.

The cylinder head number 22952 is a TD2 head number that had the smaller valves. My TF head number 168422 has the larger valves. I wonder if the head numbers for the TF and TDC are the same, with the same size valves. Can anyone answer this question?

My above thread seems to be missing a section. The question I was asking is "does anyone know if the TF and the TDC have the same head"?

Before we learned the Car # I tried to find it myself.
I searched the MGCC production records in hopes of finding the record for a car with that engine number. This led me to the records for February 22, 1951. (My guess missed by 6 days.) I ended up jotting down the car number and engine number for all 27 cars produced that day. In case someone's interested in how the engine numbers jump around - here they are: Car/Engine:
6241/6583;6242/6597;6243/6598;6244/6191;6245/6577;6246/6603;
6247/6602;6248;6547;6249/6431;6250/6442;6251/6199;6252/6612;
6253/6591;6254/6200;6255/6590;6256/6301;6257/6492;6258/6594;
6259/6596;6260/6489;6261/6453;6262/6441;6263/6488;6264/6593;
6265/6630;6266/6631;6267/6626;6268/6627

FYI, Car #6200 received Engine # 6201 on 2/20/52
