MG TD TF 1500 - Rear License plate wire

Can someone show me a picture of how the wires from the spare tire rack go into the rear license plate light on a left hand drive mg td
Thanks, Louis

I think I have that image....

I think you should pull a little extra wire from the harness end and make a rain drain loop with the wire. Otherwise, the rain will follow the wire down into the spare tire rack.

Louis,
There is a small hole in the upper horizontal bar of the spare tire bracket. It faces toward the gas tank. You can run the wire from under the rear to this hole and then out the bar as Ed has shown. Using this method there will always be a length of wire hanging loose behind the spare tire rack.
I tried to run the wire thru the tubing of the rack from the bottom up but discovered that there was no hole drilled in the pipe before the rack was welded together. To get around this I drilled two holes as shown it the image to bypass the obstruction. This way there is no hanging wire and the little bypass is virtually unnoticeable. I put a couple of small grommets in the holes to protect the wire. And remember the loop Jim mentioned.

Thanks Mort, could you show me a picture of how your wire looks going into the license plate light from the spare tire rack?

Louis, until Mort gets back to you, here is a cropped photo that shows the rear of my license plate lamp.

I was limited in the amount I was willing to pull through the pipes of the spare tire rack, as it was a tight pull and I didn't want to damage the wire, but as mentioned you do want some loop.

To make the job of fishing the wire through easier.... use compressed air blower to blow a piece of string through the hole and it will find its way out the crossbar. Pull through some heavier string then pull through the wire. A little soap, wax, or silicone on the wire helps.

Louis,
Mine looks just like the picture Dallas posted only mine isn't so neat.

Lacking compressed air I fished mine thru using some stainless steel safety wire.

IMHO, better than a fish wire or compressed air is a vacuum. Suck a small string through and pull a larger tape or the wire itself. I have used this method to pull a fish take over 200 feet in underground conduit. Was taught it by my electrician.

I used the stock hole in the horizontal bar on the tire rack. It took forever to figure it out since I didn't to this step until after the rack was already installed on the car.
