MG TD TF 1500 - Rear Sheet Metal - Does it Matter?

Hi all. (I have a 1952 TD)

Have the tub built for better or worse and I've been cleaning up the sheet metal I have left. The "rear panel" I have came off this car. It looks like it came off of a TF if I go by the Moss catalog drawing. It looks shorter than the one listed for a TD. This is the panel that sits between the rear quarter panels. Does its height and the resultant exposed wood behind the fuel tank really matter?

Richard,

You can go to my website, http://www.dbraun99.com and go to the mg td 15470 Restoration section. There you can go to the tub and wing section and peruse a bunch of views in the tub and fuel tank areas. It might help you decide which panel you have.

An aside, the rear panel is the cheapest piece of metal available from Moss.

The TF panel, if it is the right width, will probably hide enough of the wood. The panel on my car was the only metal I had to replace as it was thin from the inside out due to the moisture attacking it from the wood side. The TF panel is not available from Moss at this time, so perhaps there is a market for yours on ebay if indeed it is a TF's.

I do'nt think there is much diffence Richard. Like Dave it the only piece of metal I replaced on my TF. I had the steel shop cut a piece to dimension an the I formed the upper roll and flange edge. Not to difficult. Here's a shot with the old piece still in place.

Thanks guys, from both your photos, mine looks the same. I'll live with it. Unlike you folks, I need to yet buy all the quarter panels and wheel wells. Everything else is still usable.

There is one original quarte panel on ebay now- check it out. Likely much easier to fit than a repro.
