MG TD TF 1500 - remove manifold

Replacing the exhaust flange gasket on a 1950 TD. After a lot of 50/50 acetone & ATF soaking, two of the three steel nuts came off w/ minimal effort. No joy on the third; broke the stud. So now the manifold needs to come off to have the stud(s) replaced. As a newby to MG's, it appears the sequence of removal is:

remove air filter, disconnect fuel line, mixture cable & carb linkage.

remove two bolts holding each carb on manifold; remove carbs

remove two bolts holding manifold to block.

Questions:

Is this sequence correct?

I'll need carb gaskets & an exhaust gasket. Anything else?

Will I need to adjust the carbs when I put it back together?

Any other tips/suggestions are welcome.

Thank you.

Bruce, after removing the fuel line, choke cable and throttle connection to the carbs all you need to do is to remove the 4 nuts and "bars" on the studs coming out of the head. This will be easier if the air cleaner assembly is first removed from the front of the carbs. The carbs complete with manifold will slide off the studs as will the exhaust manifold.

The first step and the most inportent is to disconect the battery. Forrest TD/C22679

As above; don't remove the carbs from the manifold, remove the manifolds complete. Replace the manifold gasket. The original exhaust pipe nuts were brass, not steel - that's why the stud broke. If you feel ambitions, it's worthwhile to have the manifold coated by Jet-Kote or similar, to reduce temperatures (tons in the archives).

With the manifolds off, check the condition of the core plugs underneath, and the cylinder end plate at the back of the head.

Suggestion, If the core plugs have any indication of a leak, replace all of them with Toms brass plugs, they work perfectly and are there for life! What I did and am very happy with the results. PJ
