MG TD TF 1500 - Removing plastic window film

After uncovering the wifes MGB, I found that the plastic windows were covered with a film that made them hard to see through. I tried various products to remove the film without harming it with little luck. So, I tried using something I've been using for years on hard plastic, but was in fear of harming the windows. Gel-Gloss, sold by Camping World, it is the best I've found for polishing plastic. Used sparingly, it worked great! The windows became crystal clear as the film was completely removed. Thought I'd pass it along. PJ

Believe it or not ...best I have ever found for plastic / plexaglass windows: Lemon Pledge.

I agree Dave, it will clean dusty and water spotted windows. We used furniture polish on agriculture aircraft windshields, about every three flights to remove chemical over spray, as long as it has no wax in it. But if the glass has a film on it, furniture polish mostly shines up the film and kinda makes it disappear, but doesn't remove it, Gel-Gloss will remove the film and take the plastic back to almost new condition. I use a product developed for aircraft plexi windows... called Plexus.... http://www.plexusplasticcleaner.com/plexus.html

One new one out there is something I picked up that cleans the film off plastic headlights. I used it on some brown spots on the TD back window. Cut right through them.

By the way- works fantastic on yellowed plastic headlights on modern cars

Someone on this BBS recommended Plexus to me a while ago. I had side windows that were opaque brown/yellow. It was like a miracle. I have used it every year and the windows remain clear. It also works nicely on my amco side wind deflectors when they start to yellow.

I used to work with vinyl windows and when they yellowed like that and turned opaque, we cut them out and replaced them.

The other thing is that Plexus seems to preserve the vinyl. Mine hasn't really degraded since I started using it.

....same with mine...you will wonder where the yellow went?

Will have to get some Plexus and give it a try. Gel-Gloss works extremely well, but it's a pain trying to keep it off the edges of the mohair top. PJ
