MG TD TF 1500 - Replacement engine TF

Has anyone an experience in fitting another not original XPAG or XPEG engine in a TF ?

Yes, I have an XPAG engine from a TD in my TF. If you don't have them, it will be very difficult to find the right 1 1/2 carbs.

Over the years a number of engines have been used...old Ford flathead V-8's, Volvos, and just recently I saw a photo of a TC getting a Toyota transplant.

Henri, why do you ask this? Are you planning to fit another XPAG/XPEG to your TF?

The car belongs to a friend. We fear that the engine is really beyond repair so we are looking for alternatives.

There is an XPAG engine for sale on "Marktplaats.NL" although not exactly cheap at 3950 euros !!!
According to the seller it has done 2000 miles only and is a genuine "Goldseal" unit....

You do not have to fit 1 1/2 " carburettors on an XPAG. According to the late Don Jackson, SU expert, they rise only so much and he changed them with 1 1/4 " on his TF. Personally I am happy with the original ones in my TD.
