MG TD TF 1500 - Replacement Steel Wheels

Does anyone know of a replacement modern steel wheel for the MG TF.

I have a bad buckle in one ( they straightened the others) and I can't get is balanced properly...

I have the 5 hole wheels.

I ask because they are selling some very cheap wheel and tyre sets for modern cars now that winter is coming and thought I might take advantage. They are sold by sorting by car... funnily they don't have MG :-(

Dave,

seems to become hard to find something that will fit the car. I just measured the wheel pattern on my TD. Should be 5x150 mm with a center hole of ~ 100 mm.
Some off road cars use this pattern but with much larger and wider rims.

I had a similar problem. Finally took the steel wheels off the TF and put them on the TD. Then bought a wire wheel kit from Moss and put wire wheels on the TF.

IMHO the TF looks "proper" with wire wheels. The TD looks "proper" with steel wheels. Just my opinion.

Did you try Brown and Gammons or Naylor Bros. in the UK? I would think that they must perform some wire wheel conversions. If you only need one MG wheel, you should be able to find one pretty reasonably priced.

I researched this some months back, trying to see if I could find a spare if I had an issue while on the road. No cars I researched have a wheel with the same bolt pattern. A few luxury cars came close, but not close enough.

E-bay or the market on this web site may be your only option right now.

Thanks guys. I will try Steven's suggestion of B&Gs or Naylors. Don't fancy buying one on fleebay as I would likely end up with having to have it straightened anyway give the age :-)

I thought about the wire wheels...but I have them the Jag and they are a pain to keep looking good in a damp climate :-(

Cheers

I'm not sure I've ever seen a TF with steel wheels -- all that I can recall had wires. Maybe we didn't get them here?

There was a beautiful TF, rhd, at Hershey with disc wheels. Made the car really stand out. Owned by a nice young lady. Larry

I think there were a lot of steel wheel TF's originaly but like most folks I think it just looks right with wires

I remember back in the 50's most 1954 mgtf with 1250 engines had the steel wheels and the 1955 TF's with 1500 engines had the wire wheels.

I think both the TD and the TF look good with wire wheels. Just my opinion

Really good useable wheels are tough to come by for our cars. I went thru 13 wheels this spring to find 4 decent candidates for my car. Material is quite soft -easy to bend. Good luck, Dan

FYI - I have a 1954 TF with steel wheels. Had to replace the set that came with the car because the rims were really dented. Found a good set on Ebay for about $400.

Dave Moore,
The Morris Oxford had the same wheels as the TD. You might find some on your side of the pond, in what we call wrecking yards. I got a set here many years ago and they did require some straightening and are still in use today.
