Its amazing how original the car looks. You were not kidding when you said the car looks a bit of a 'barn find'. I am sure there are a lot of us thinking "I would like to get my hands on that".
Was the car restored or resprayed at all in the past? If not then you may like to consider a detailed photographic record of all parts of the car.
My TF was previously owned by my Father and is still mostly original. I have chosen the path of conservation rather than simply repainting and replacing everything, something you may like to give thought to. You are embarking on what should be a very interesting and rewarding voyage.

Cheers,
Matthew.

Hi Matthew,

To the best of my knowledge she has never been restored but some of the panels are a slightly different green so I think there has been a little
bit of remedial work over the years. The O/S rear
wing was dented by a neighbour a few years ago and
has been straigtened and painted. I learnt a few new words that day.....

The cockpit, the odo reads 98,011 so that would be
298,011 in total.

Mike,

How do you know for sure that the first digit should read 2 ?

Hi Jasper,

I was in the car with my Dad when the odo went to all the zeros, and I remember Dad saying something to the effect of 'there she goes for the second time around'.

Mike,

I was just curious. I guess most T-types owners cannot come that close to the real odo meter readings.

Thanks!

"There she goes for the second time around". That could be interpreted as starting the second time around which is probably more likely.

I was thinking same as Max.

Mike,
What is the line/hose/wire that runs along the top of the windscreen from the left to the right??? Might it be a hose for washing the screen?????
One other thing worth noting,,, Look how well the (real) rubber boots on the sterring rack are!!!! Compare them to what is available today!!!!

The brake scoop (which seems to be facing in the wrong direction) is quite different from the factory scoop shown in the Mark II brochure, and it's pretty clearly home-made.

John Bolster did a roadtest of FRX942 which appeared in the 29 Dec issue of Autosport magazine. Interestingly the brake scoops are clearly visible on a photo in the mag. IMHO they are similar to the ones still on the car.
This is a very special and a historically important mg td ! Thanks for sharing this Mike.

Hello Steve,

I think what you can see is the conduit or indeed the power cable to run the windscreen wiper motor. The rubber boots look in reasonable condition although they would have been replaced over the years

Hello David, Max,

I'll see if I can find some documentation to verify the mileage. The car was a 'daily driver' for my Dad for many years (bought in '56) and probably for the previous owners (4). If you factor in the fact that she has gone nowhere for the last 15 years then 298/48
equtes to 6.2k a year - not unreasonable.

Hi Tom,

Not sure what you mean (wrong direction) I sent a bunch of photos to your e-mail addy on here - have you seen them? They may have been manufactured in an mg workshop but are certainly not 'after market'.

Nick,

You are spot on, I have an original copy of that issue of Autosport.

The air deflector is facing the correct way,,, not really a scoop, but rather a deflector to deflect the air over to the drum,,,,,
