MG TD TF 1500 - Some Questions.......

1. Is it advisable to use loctite on the pressure plate when attaching it to the flywheel? If so, what color loctite? Anywhere else loctite should be used?

2. Are there different quality cotter pins? If so where do you get the good ones? It seems to me that Lowes/Home Depot/Ace etc. all have the same quality which seem to rust over time.

3. Carb overflow pipes. I have one that is copper tubing and one that is steel tubing. Seems strange to me. Did they do it this way for a reason?

4. I have the new bracket for the stabilizer link assembly (Moss #411-040) that does not look anything like the one that was on the engine. Does the bracket go under the bolt head or under the nut/washer on the bearer plate?

5. Is it advisable to put a thin layer of permatex on the carb gaskets that go on the intake manifold? Also I do not have any spacers between the card and intake manifold. In a current thread on this topic it seems that there should be a spacer there. Does anyone with a TF run without a spacer?

As always, any info/opinions/comments etc. greatly appreciated... John

John,

1) I didn't use loctite on the pressure plate.

2) Try stainless steel cotters. They are more expensive, and to get large ones you may have to try a specialty vender like Fastenal.

3) your overflow pipes should be copper tubing.

4) Can you post a picture? The original brackets for the stabilizer link are on the water pump and the right hand shock mount respectively.

5) I put the carb gaskets on dry.

Good luck,

Hi John,

On TFs,the carb overflow pipes were steel.TCs and TDs I think had copper.

No kidding Rob? I learn something new here all the time. I might swear off answering TF questions!

Dave
Can you post a photo (or a link to a photo) of the stabaliser link to engine as I think I am missing the part and would like to know how it is attached.

Cheers
