MG TD TF 1500 - Speedo cable broke
The cable on my speedo, 1952 mg td broke at the transmission. I unscrewed the nut and a small piece of wire with the end on came out, and then I removed the wire from its housing. My question is can I just replace the wire or do I have to replace all of it? I was driving when I heard this load sound coming from the speedo, and then it stopped and so did the speedo, so now I don't know how fast I am going or how many miles. Thanks for any imput. Louis |

change both, the cable broke for a reason either it seized in the outer cable or the speedo seized. take the inner out and put the speedo end into the back of the speedo and twist it to make sure the speedo is OK. If it is free and working just change the cable. |

LOUIS, If you heard the noise coming from the speedo,,, and it snapped at the other end at the trannie,,, it sure seems like there is something wrong in the speedo,,,The end at the trannie was probbly the weakest point,,, SPW |

An update. The speedo is frozen, I put the end of the cable into the speedo and hooked it up to my electric drill, to see if would turn. You guessed it, no turning of the speedo. So now I need the speedo repaired and a new cable, oh well the fun of a 60 year old car. Thanks for the input. Louis |
