MG TD TF 1500 - Speedo face in kilometres per hour
Hi, Can anyone help me to find a speedo face in kilometres per hour like the picture ? I am looking for to fit on my 1953 mg td on the french road use. ![]() |

They are very rare - the factory sold few cars with KPM instruments, early flat-face or later dished. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

My car has a metric speedo as well. I refurbished it and added a new English system (MPH) decal because I was unable to source a metric decal. The speed readout is of course correct in MPH, but the odometer still registers in kilometers. I added a small "km" to the gauge face as a reminder.

Bonjour Didier, The best person to contact is John Marks at Vintage Restorations in England, here is his contact information. http://www.mg-cars.org.uk/vr/ John |

Bonjour John, Thank you for the contact. I have just send him an email. Corey, I hope that I could find a metric decal ... |

Here is a KM. speedometer. According to the sticker on the back it was restored by West Valley Instruments. I do not know if the speedo started out as a mph speedometer. I am considering removing the face and having it copied on some printable decal material. Cheers, Hugh ![]() |

This weekend I was at a Dutch MG parts show and there was a Dutchman that could supply the flat metric decal. I'll try to find out who it was..... |

The 53 had a dish speedo in it. |

Hugh, if you decide to copy the face on printable decal materiel, I would be interested. Willem, if you find the information I'm interested. |

Corey, I was unaware that you could have a speedo that registers MPH, and in the same instrument, an odometer that registers KM SPW |

Steve, Isn't that just a matter of scaling the dail? Just print 100 km/h near the 60 mph mark (etc.) |

Steve, the speedo needle moves through its full range with the speed of the car regardless of the face decal. You can install a face for any measurement units (feet per second, miles per hour, kilometers per hour) - all that is necessary is to match the decal to the needle movement. The odometer however must have a changeable gear drive, which enabled the factory to build two versions of the gauge, i.e., MPH and KPH. Had I chosen to have the unit rebuilt, I assume I could have had the rebuilder modify it to calibrate the odometer for MPH usage. |

Didier, I finally found the Dutch clock repairer that should have decals in KPH. His name is Aad Warmerdam: he can be reached on warme228 (at) planet (dot) nl |

Thank you Willem for the information. Good effort memory ... |
