MG TD TF 1500 - Standard color

I am on the way for an investment in a MG TC .
I found one with two colors, red on the body and black on the wings.
Was this a standard combination of color from factory?

In 1945 TC's were only generally available in black but in 1947 Regency Red and Shires Green were added.
The colours available in 1948/49 were
Black
Regency Red
Shires Green
Clipper Blue
There is no mention of a two tone TC however that does not mean that you couldn't order a special colour.

...not sure about the TC, but I thought MGs came from the factory with one colour....that said, I have also heard that they would do whatever you wanted if you paid for it....
(still think the majority came one colour...)

Good day Ulf:

The TC was never, to my knowledge, available in a two tone colour scheme. I believe some pre WW II models SA, Va, or the like, were.

The TC introduced in 1945 came in Black, only.

In 1946 the Works added: Emgee Red and Apple Green. This remained the same through 1947.

In 1948, however; the line was enlarged to: Black, Emgee Red, Apple Green, Sequoia Cream, Clipper Blue.

In 1949, it was changed again: Black, Emgee Red, Ivory, Clipper Blue, and Almond Green (metallic): which I understand, in order to create the desired affect, necessitated the addition of ground up fish scales being mixed into the paint. I have never seen this done but in conversations with panelbeaters, of the period, it was one of their most hated tasks--the smell).

This information was produced by a Michael Card in February 1999, e-mail address: zenilite@pncl.co.uk , and includes much more detail that I have sent, including interior colour schemes and modern day paint equivalents (cross overs).

Cheers then, hope this helps:

Confirmed, there was no two-tone option from the factory for TCs. Sometimes unique things were done by special request, but most likely the TC in question was painted this scheme later in its life, or possibly by the dealer.

Thank you all for the information.

It will not be a two colored MG for my investment.

I am now choosing between a MG TC-49 and a mg td-51.

Looking forward to be a part of the MG family

TD's tend to be easier to work on, especially LHD's. Also not as touchy with steering and such. TC are really nice though and they look great.
