MG TD TF 1500 - Starting Handle Fixing
G'day all: I should like to glean the following from anyone reading this as to: 1)the approximate fixing points, on the rear face of the seat squab, for the three starting handle clips; 2)the starting handles' position, is it to the off-side (RS) or near-side (LS) for the LHD model; 3)the approximate stud locations for the half tonneau straps, around the propellor shaft tunnel opening; and lastly, 4) the number and approximate locations of the external body studs for the tonneau around the rear of the tub. Sorry for all these queries but the old mind has faded as to just where the points were located. I know how the bits should look when installed and as I am not a "concours d'élégance" adherent close enough will suffice quite nicely. Nice Work Roy! Jack, You may want to visit my website, http://www.dbraun99.com In it is a Restoration Photosite, and plenty of upholstery and weather equipment photos. I don't believe there was a reason to position the handle in a different position on the back of the seat depending on the drive of the car. The places for my studs on the tonneau work well for the car, but I can't vouch for their correctness. I've read that the LTD fastners on the tonneau replaced horizontally in the direction of pull, I didn't go that route, but I'm tall and can lean in. I don't use a half-tonneau, so I can't speak for the studs around the propshaft tunnel. warmly, Dave |

Hi Jack I will measure the clip locations for you from my 1950 mg td. Sounds like you must be getting close on the TD. Any pictures you can post. Like Dave, I don't use a half tonneau only because the full tonneau will cover everything when I am stopped (Seagulls you know) and when travelling with top down the full tonneau covers the back very well and is quick and easy to pull up and clip over the seats. G'day Lads: Thank you to: Mr. Challberg for the TD squab photograph, Mr. Braun for the comprehensive web-site rebuild, pictorial, history and for the forthcoming information from Messrs. Brian Smith and Dave DuBois. Once more this web-site has done its utmost to bail me out of a few sticky wickets. Cheers for now all; respectfully: Jack Emdall, TC6768/TD3191, New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada |

Hi Jack On my early TD the starting handle clips are as follows, measure down from the top of the seat back (the wood) 5 1/2 inches, this is the mid point of the clips. Now measure from the right hand side of the seat back 13 3/4 inches, that is the mid point of the right most clip where the horizontal and vertical lines intersect, from the mid point of that clip measure another 11 1/4 inches along the back of the seat and that is the mid point of the other top clip, again where the horizontal and vertical lines intersect. The bottom clip sits in a vertical plain with the mid point 9 inches from the right side of the seat and 10 1/4 inches down from the top of the seat back. Let me know if I can help further. Brian |

Sorry jack. The link will work but you will need to look at the pictures individually....don't run the slideshow or it will kick you out. I guess I didn't have enough space left to upload all of the pictures so many are missing but you should get a feel for what we have done in the past. Great time with an awsome group of friends both old and new. Brian |
