MG TD TF 1500 - steering outer column alignment/position on TD
Hi, Relatively new owner I have a 1953 TD and I am having a bit of trouble with my outer steering column. After researching as best I could, I cannot determine if the engine side end of the outer steering column (the enlarged part that holds the felt bushing) should fit into the clamp/hoop that bolts to the drivers side tower. It seems logical that it should? the fit is very tight for space there, is this normal? Any help would be greatly appreciated Jeff |

Jeff, welcome. Take a look at my website, http://www.dbraun99.com/ and go to the mg td15470 restoration portion. In that area under 'Steering' is a picture of the positioning of the outer column and the clamp. Yes, it does go around the thicker weldment for the felt bush. There are also two spacers involved, one long one to distance the clamp from the A tower, and a short one as a clamping distance piece. hope this helps, dave |

Dave, Thanks a bunch for the comeback!! Turns out the culprit of the whole mess of alignment was a woefully worn out front motor mount...sheesh! It's only right out there like a sore thumb, don't know how I missed it. new parts ordered and an update soon. |
