MG TD TF 1500 - steering wheel 53 T

This is the wood steering wheel I have for my 53. It is about 16 1/2 X 2 3/4.I have recently found that it it not original; probably aftermarket. I need to replace or rebuild it. Am running out of restoration$; Is there an inexpensive off the shelf wheel I can buy or is restoring it the best way to go. Just want to get it on the road for now. Looking for recommendations and prices.

You might want to contact Ben Cordsen in Fort Collins, Colorado who restores these steering wheels. I had him restore one for my '53 TD and it is beautiful. I think it is probably as close as you will get to the original color. He also restores the center cap. He can be contacted at:
Ben Cordsen <sculptart@hotmail.com>, www.CordsenDesign.com

I am recommending this as a satisfied customer, and have no financial interest.

I had my steering wheel done by Gordon Bruce Lawson <gblawson@vaxxine.com> and his workmanship is without equal in my humble opinion. Needless to say I am exceptionally pleased with the work he did. Worth every penny, well maybe dollars, but that's beside the point if its excellent craftsmanship you're looking for.

It sounds like the stock size. What is wrong with the wood? Often you can simply sand it down and put a new coat of varnish on it.
Steve Simmons

He showed a photo of it Steve on the MG Experience site and the wood is gone. Looks like an original wheel, but I could be wrong. I mentioned to him to contact Gordon Lawson, who is a magician with wood and making a steering wheel rim out of it. PJ

I am going to attempt to cast a new wheel from Resin. I am looking for an orginal wheel to use for making a mold (silicone rubber).

This is the wheel that Gordon did for my 52 TD. This photo has appeared on this forum before. Looks great and I am very happy with the workmanship. Highly recommend his services.

Here is my Lawson wheel.

Thanks, -- It must be something in my computer then. Have to get my guru on the problem. The rest of the BBS comes through without a problem.

Also this morning a private message from James Neel came through with a picture and the picture was OK. Thanks Jim.

The wheels look just great! I like the crossover between wood rim and the original hub and spokes. Beautiful
