MG TD TF 1500 - TD Clock Problem solved forever

Now here is how someone finally solved the clock problem in a very elegant way

The way it looks this was a real TD tach, not a repro, as the seller says, but the restorer gave up on the clock...

I set my non-running clock at 5 PM. It's always 5 o'clock somewhere and time to crack a brewski.

Actually this tach is a Triumph TR3 tachometer with a colour change on the face. In my opinion it looks ugly without the clock.

I personally like the simple replacement with a modern time piece (watch) as many have done.

I'm just glad my TD goes faster then 60 mph :)

I agree with the modern clock swap idea. Still looking on ebay for a good replacement.

Guess I'm seeing this from a different side. I'm happy to say that I'm used to looking at the clock in my TD and expecting it to show something very close to the correct time. A long time ago (19 years ago) I had the clock transistorized by Hal Kramer. Since then I've had it serviced by our own Chuck Schmit (he does great work). Enough hybridization. Have faith. Bud

...the needle centre just looks so wrong.....

I also like the look of an original clock, even if it doesn't work... When I get this thing on the road it's just one less thing for the gawkers & self styled experts to pick..

I had mine done by Hal but it only lasted 2 years. Now it just sits there. Not critical but it is the ONLY part on the car that does NOT work.

Not worth standing on my head to take it out at this time though.

If your clock is not functioning the accepted time to set it at is 10 past 10.

Have a look at watch commercials and you'll see that most watches are fotographed at 10 past 10.

In my Y-type the clock reads a quarter past one. (one and a quarter, get it?)

just got mine back in. clock works... not sure how accurate yet and got the speedo updated as well as the temp gauge.

Looks good. Who'd you use for the r estoration/refurbishment?

Thanks.

L Rutt, I'd suggest that you drop Hal a note and tell him about. Hal's quite proud of his workmanship. He's known as hkramer (at)nycap.rr.com Bud

i used Nisonger in NY. i thought they did a great job. they were very helpful and took care of every detail right down to sending a new felt washer for the oil pressure gauge.
The speedo was the wrong face and not calibrated for the car. they knew that without me telling them and called me to let me know what they needed to fix.
in short i would say they know their stuff. Not cheap but good work never is.

i was going to have my tach color matched to the speedo but the guy who does the screen print for them was 10 weeks out. too close to spring for that. So maybe next winter.

Thanks. I need to get my combo oil & water gauge restored (oil pressure works fine, tater temp disconnected by PO so I guess it doesn't work)

Good day all@

I concur with Mr. Pite's identification of the Tachometer. If you enlarge one of the photographs, of the reverse of the item using the link provided, you can make out TR 4 etched on the casing.
