MG TD TF 1500 - TD generator pulley

i thought i would just start a new thread on this issue.
i took the gen off last night and pulled the pulley. the shanks size looks to be 5/8" or very close. i am planning to contact Moss today to see if their pulley will fit there. but i thought i would post a few pics to see if you all might see something that will be an issue.
Also i see Moss has a misc hardware pack listed. they do not seem to have them. i am sure i can make one up from the local hardware store. my question would be what order do the parts go on? my books do not show the actual breakdown of the pulley. they show all the parts but not the order of washers and spacers. since mine was not original it is not going to be right. Does anyone have a pic of the washers and how they went on?
Thanks

Are you sure that you have a TD genny??? The front plate looks a bit different that the pic on Dave's Photo site,,, Even the threads look to be longer,,,,

no. it is not a TD gen. but if the shank size matches I was thinking I could get this to work and give me the right size pulley to run the tach properly.

TLW - If it is not an original TD/TF generator or a early midget generator, it will not have the output fitting to screw the tach gearbox into. the shaft size for the pulley is the same on all Lucas generators. Cheers - Dave

Thanks. it does have the tach drive on the back. Moss says their pulley is .59 inside. that is pretty darn close to what I measured. since the tach drive and all is there it must be the same shank.
going to give it a try. thanks for all the input.

if someone took a picture of their gen with the pulley off, maybe they can post it so I can see the spacers. if not I will wing it when I get the pulley.

Thanks

See http://www.ttalk.info/Holcombe.htm for instructions on installing a new armature into a generator. I believe there are a few images showing the order of components. BTW, the armature kit is no longer available. I believe that Dave DuBois has something comparable on his web site. Bud

Thanks. My gen is fine. Just need the right size pulley. It looks like I just need enough spacers to get the fan out the the woodruff key. The pulley does not look like it needs a spacer. It is pretty deep and the key would be in the way. Just waiting on parts now. Thanks.
TLW Wright

On my ginny from LBC I had to manufacture a spacer to get the fan out to engage the woodruff key. The pully from my old (hopefully to be rebuilt) but not original( per Dave DeBois probably from a Spridget) ginny fit right on the new ginny from LBC but the nut from the old one didn't fit the new one (LBC supplied the correct nut to hold the pully on).

TLW, I'm not implying that your generator is shot. I'm just suggesting that you might find some information about the various spacers and other components that are part of the assembly. That's what you asked for. remember? Bud

Gentlemen - The woodruff key does not need to engage the slot in the fan (it is there only to be able to get the fan past the key). As long as the fan is not rubbing against the end bell of the generator, no spacer is needed. The fan is held in place by the pulley pressing against it. There is a spacer that rides against the inner race of the front bearing to insure that the fan and the pulley are held tight against the inner race of the pulley - no further spacers are needed. Cheers - Dave

David D is correct. George

Dave, good to know. It sure seemed relying on that thin sheet metal to be pushed around on edge by the W-key seemed a bit strange. I guess I inadvertantly manufactured a spacer about the right thickness because the fan seems to spin reliably.

Thanks.

Bud, sorry did not mean to insult. Point taken and I checked it out. Thanks for the info.
Got the pulley today and it slides on nicely. Good to know I do not need to worry about the fan on the key. Cross that trip to the hardware store off my list. I am good to go.
Thanks to everyone. Hope to hook up tomorrow night. I would have done it tonight but I painted the pulley red so waiting for it to dry.
Can't wait to check it out. And then back to the clutch...

Remember to make sure the ginny is properly polarized and I found it worthwhile to confirm the output following the instructions in the WSM.

Good luck.

i took the car out for a spin today. the speedo and the tach were right in line with what i had read about speed and the rev's. around 3650 RPM showing 50 on the speedo. funny thing was the GPs said i was only going 43-44. So not sure if the GPS is right now. i will check with another car.
TLW Wright

Most speedos are 10% optimistic so showing 50 would be 45 which is not far from what you are reading.
