$9000 seems cheap.

She went for $24,500 Dave. Looks like a nice car. Cheers

Oh, my mistake.

I was watching the auction page. The time had updated, but it seems the price hadn't.

Yes, it did look good.

Pic 51 of 55 shows the rear brake line well rearward of the diff. This would put it perilously close to the rear side curtain box, with the potential for it to rub against the brake line. I once lost all brake pedal for this reason, leaving a trail of brake fluid, while traveling at speed. Not a nice experience as I was in the mountains at the time. Apart from the later ignition switch (with the window) and the slotted screws used on the dash, the interior (these should probably be Phillips on a car this late?), looks reasonably original. Cheers

Quite a nice looking car; how prices have fallen! Just a few years ago this might have been a $30,000 car.

The only small "wrong" thing I can add is that the two Mark II badges ought not be there on this car number. Later owners often added them to highlight the special nature of the Mark II cars, as the badges were available from any BMC parts dealer.

I see a $32,500 TD on some MG group on Facebook, might be dreaming.

I liked this MKII quite a bit, and hope for the buyer that it turns out well.

The final price of $24,500 was the best of over 50 TDs sold through the Bring A Trailer auction site since 2015. Also, this TD is the first to break $20,000 over those 4 years. During 2019, Bring A Trailer buyers purchased 26 TDs--the highest selling price was only $16,250.

I'm hoping that the slide in TD prices is ending and that this auction signals that higher prices will be paid.

It's a nice older restoration/driver. I think the $24.5k is a realistic price.

To get to $30-35k you are going to have to have a concours trailer queen done to perfect specs. You'll probably have to spend $50-60k to get there so not much of a chance of these happening in this market IMHO.

I think hoping that prices will go up is wishful thinking. I have an original California Black Plate 1955 mgtf 1500 that I have tried to sell for the last year and really haven't had any serious buyers. The younger generations just aren't interested in these cars and the older generations (Baby Boomers like myself) have had their fun but are getting older and are unable to work on their cars any more. That's my 2 cents worth anyway!

It dodn't have the MK II intake manifold either..

But you have to love that breather pipe. :-)

Mark is correct. The latest edition of Clasic Car Weekly shows TFs as one of the cars that is falling in price. They have monitored the actual price achieved for TF 1500s in 2018 and 2019 and the price has dropped by £4000 or 14%. The average price was £27392 in 2018 and this fell to £23260 in 2019.

the average price in the UK is so far above that in the US it's hard to compare. The average quoted by Jan converts today to $30,260. The average on the MG Auction Watch today for three Tfs' in the US is $18,900. One of them is a RH drive. Then there is the restomod TF with a Honda motorcycle engine for $35,000. No comment.

Mark should export his car to the UK on spec.

That is not a good sign. I agree that there are less people interested in our cars. The ones we are seeing are getting projects they can work on.

A nice looking 1967 MGB sold at Barrett Jackson for $12,100. a 57 MGA convertible for $14,850. But then a 58 MGA convertible full restoration went for $48,400.

That's a very nice looking Mark II in the opening post. $ 24,500 seems quite modest for a clean Mark II.
It has the dual fuel pumps and the Andrexes all around. Only odd thing at first glance is that it doesn't have the center mounted wiper motor of the 1953 model year.

Bobby - the parts book shows that the wiper migrated at car TD22315, about 500 cars after this one which was made in November, 1952.

Maybe the " I really don't want to sell it price" " So the wife thinks it will sell and I can buy more parts to keep the price up - price"
sounds right to me.
