MG TD TF 1500 - TD22927 lives!

Many months ago I first checked in on the BBS looking for a build date for my newly acquired '53 TD (It appears to have been on the assembly line when I was born). Since that time I've been a regular fly-on-the-wall reading the technical and not-so-technical postings. Good fun.

TD22927 is a RHD 'shed' car I picked up late last summer that hadn't run in about 20 years. It's straight, solid, and complete - but it needs lots of TLC nonetheless. Today was a milestone. After changing the oil and spark plugs, topping up the coolant and filling the float bowls with gas, (and using the necessary verbal encouragement), IT STARTED, and darned if it doesn't sound pretty good and doesn't appear to smoke! If I was a drinkin' man, I'd hoist a pint. I invite any/all of you to hoist one for me!

Still lots of work to do, though. I cleaned out the fuel pump and it worked OK for a couple minutes, then started pumping backward!? Found out that part of the oulet check valve is missing (the little brass disk). Also, the brakes are giving me fits and the wiring looks like it was done by chimpanzees. I still intend to have a great time working on and eventually driving it and meeting some of you folks.

I'm already in Gordon's database, too.

Cheers.

Good on you, T.A.! Hope to see you soon at some national event with your car.

Congratulations, TA! Pretty cool, your TD being a RHD and all. Perhaps I'll get to see it one day. Do you intned to post any photos anywhere? Mine is at:

if you would like to peek in on my project.

T.A.:

Congratulations! I want to emphasize that this BBS is, in my estimation, THE single most important reference you will find. Oh sure, the Workshop Manual, and various other writings are important to give you a basic idea, but the INTERPRETATION is the most important thing, and here you will find all the answers you need, so please fire away! The guys who are regulars here can and will answer even the most basic questions, so fire away!

Also, like Dave Braun states above, if you create a pictorial record of your restoration by digital posting, you also give encouragement to those who are just now getting underway... I cannot emphasize how many times I've almost lost hope, only to go browse all of those bookmarked URLs, or post a message here that was quickly answered, to give me encouragement to keep going!

Good Luck!

TA,

Congratulations and welcome to the MG "T" communitity here in Michigan.

I'm just putting the final touches on my
'51 TD (# 6754) restoration and should be on the road by next Saturday. If you're in or near the South East Mi. area ,there are lots of guys here who have done or are doing what you're starting and would be a great resource along with this GREAT BBS.
It's always helpfull to have another "T" car available as a reference.

Send an e-mail for more info if you like.

Tom, Thanks for the invite. I am in SE MI, so I'll be in touch. I look foward to meeting you.

Gordon, Tennessee sounds adventurous enough to have a go...we'll have to see if the $$ and time work out.

Dave, I was dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century, so I'll need some help to post pictures of my car.
