MG TD TF 1500 - temperature gauge repair

looking for a recommendation of a shop to repair temperature gauge from my '55 mgtf. looks like the capilary tube has broken just outside the sensor nut and vacuum has been lost.
any help would be appreciated.

Lee N -- It isn't vacuum in that tube it is ether. Of course if there is a crack the ether is long gone. What happens is that the increase in temperature causes the ether to evaporate and increase the pressure in the tube, the guage on the dash measures the pressure and is calibrated in temperature.

Anumber of shops can replace the tube and recharge the system.
Nisonger in New York State near NYC.
Momar in Arizona
There is a shop up in the WI or MI area that has been highly recommended.
My favorite is Vintage Restorations in England, not cheap but they do superb work (and charge accordingly).

You pays your money and you takes your choice.

Hope this helps.

Hi Lee,

I had the same problem a few years ago and called:

Nisoger Instument Sales & Service
570 Mamaroneck Ave.
Mamaroneck, NY 10543

Ph. 914-381-1952

They charge a "flat fee" to do the repairs, regardless of the problem with your instrument. They instruct you in how to ship it ot them and give you an approx. time as to getting the work done... I was very pleased with their performance and turn around time, and thought the charges were reasonable...

Cheers mate,

Lee, West Valley repaired my temp gauge a few years ago. Recently sent all to Vintage restortions for restoration- real masterpieces. Still in the box so can't verify function, but they sure look great. George

I've used West Valley Auto Electronics a few times with good results. They are not far from me. Since you're in New York, you may want to use Nisonger just to save shipping time.
