MG TD TF 1500 - TF distributor on TD ?
I own 1952 mg td, engine no. 13784, with Mark 11 head, and Judson supercharger. I am experiencing an engine skip between 2000 and 3000 rpms and cannot diagnos the source. A friend has a distributor on his TF which he will lend me to see if this corrects the skip. Are they compatible? Do you know of any aftermarket distributors that will work on my TD, or do you have a stock distributor for sale? Thanks for your imput. B. O'Neall |

If memory serves me correctly, you can use an early distributor in a late car by using the spacer ring, but not the other way around - there is also a spacing issue with the length of the distributor body in the engine, I believe. A modern Mallory dual-point distributor is available from Moss that is pretty good, or, for authenticity, find a long-neck Mallory from the 50's. Dick Knudsen sold one a couple of months back on eBay for less than a hundred dollars, needing rebuilding (Jeff Schlemmer can do this). Racers like the old Mallory swan's neck version, and they get pretty pricey for ones in good shape with good caps. If you find you have issues, send the distributor to Jeff Schlemmer, who will take excellent care of you and your distributor. Tom |

Try clipping a timing light to the coil wire and running it, especially when it is dark out. If you note disappearing spark, clip it on spark plug wires one at a time and observe, see if it narrows down to one cyl. |
