MG TD TF 1500 - TF fender welting

I believe that I am correct that the TF uses 3/8 inch bead fender welting and it should match the color of the car. Because it must run the full length of the car buying the material for one car is in my mind cost prohibitive. I also don't like the idea of painting the welting after the fact. I have finally found a source who will make the 3/8 welting with a small up charge over the the more common 1/4 inch bead. He also has a large collection of colors and easily matched the Red for my TF. He also can supply the small bead used around the radiator shell.

Hope this helps.

Yes, 3/8 is correct by my original piping.
The factory piping for TF was interrupted below the door hinges. The tubs arrived at the assembly line with the rear guards fitted and when the front guards and running boards were fitted there was a overlap join to connect the piping. Picture shows the remains of my piping below the hinges where it terminates, also the rubber core and you can see the end of the aluminium wire used to support the tight curve.

Matthew: What is the size of the rubber core (outside diameter)? What that 3/8"
Chris Couper

Wat was the diameter of the welding between the grille shell and the hood side panel? I know it was a different diamater, but I can't remember if it was smaller or larger, or what size it was.

The piping between the radiator / hood side panel is smaller. I have an original piece but never measured it. It looks approx 1/4".
Frank Cronin

I agree on the smaller diameter at the hood panels. Its the same smaller diameter piping that the TD's have on the front splash panel. Must be an aerodynamic thing :-)
Chris Couper

The rubber core is 7.5mm and the side panel piping is about 6.5mm. (metric sliding ruler)
Pic shows my original side panel piping with new guard piping.

Hard to believe the price difference between the Moss price and Wilk-Bilt Motorsports for fender welt! 9 yards from Moss for $63.95 and 30 feet from WB for $30.00! Something I'll check further into. Size and quality of material. 59 colors available. PJ

Just so you know there will be an up charge to get the 3/8 bead but since now one seems to sell the 3/8 I think it is still a good deal...

I'm not against paying a little more for a quality product, but it's a little unsettling that the pricing between venders is so far apart in some cases for the same product. It is nice to know that people like the Little British Car Co. gives us a discount on all purchases. I've saved a few bucks with them, they sell Moss products and are very nice people! But, if their product is correct, I'll buy the beading from Wilk-Bilt. The pricing apparently is too far apart. PJ

LOTS OF DIALOG ON THIS SUBJECT. IF YOU GOT TO CHRIS COUPER WEBSITE FOR THE TF, AND GOTO THE DETAILS BOX AND CLICK ON ORIGINAL TF DETAILS YOU CAN FIND ALL THE INFO AND PICTURES IN BOX 12.

YOU MIGHT ALSO CHECK OUT THE A700 headlamp INFO.

I POSTED THESE TO CC SOME YEARS AGO.

I HAVE IN THE LAST FEW DAYS SENT CC ABOUT 80 PICTURES OF ORIG. DETAILS WHICH HE WILL GET ON THE SITE.

I'm going to order welting from wilkbilt for the TF. How much fender welt (3/8") and bonnet welt (1/4") will I need? Thanks, Tyler
