MG TD TF 1500 - TF fuel ine routing

I am currently installing the fuel lines on my TF. Without the benefit of having the old fuel line or being fortunate enough to have dismantled the car. I can't be sure of either the correct line length or the routing and attachment in the engine bay. From photo 181 of the TF 9052 collection I can see that it is somehow routed to the outboard side of the body tub support. I also cannot see if there is a bracket holding the affixing the line to the support. From the attached image you can see there is more tubing than would appear to be required. The tubing was sourced from AS which usually has reasonably correct replacement parts. It would be helpful if somebody had a picture of the correct engine bay routing without the bonnet side cover in place. And if available the correct length for the line. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers Bob

Bob,

Look at picture 079 and 080 in the Engine Compartment Pictures. The fuel line is attached with a P clip bolted to the stay bar. P clip is painted black.

Frank,

Thanks I missed that. Do you recall how the tube was routed around the body tub support. looks to me it must come around the front of the support and over the frame rail next to the starter then up to the outboard attachment on the support. Do you agree? If so I will need to shorten the fuel line.

Bob,

I think you are on the right track. Here is a picture showing the routing of the fuel line with the P clip still attached bolted on to the stay bar. My car is a 1250 so the fuel line continues up around the wiper motor and to the fuel pump.

A quick note --When I look at these pictures of the tear down, it amazes me how far TF 1414 has come to what it now looks like today.

Frank Cronin

Frank,

that is a perfect picture, so it looks like my line is simply too long so I will cut to fit..

Do you have a firewall or rear mounted fuel pump? Either way, I think you will have to have the tub ( and fuel pump mounted if front) on and then measure. George

Not sure what pictures you are looking at (079/080)? Frank's early TF likely has the firewall mounted fuel pump, hence the line wrapping around the wiper motor. Been a long time, but I think the later one just comes straight up from the clip on the stay, etc. I may have a picture of an original TF at home, will check. Anyone else with a TF with rear mounted pump have a shot of that area?

Not the best pic, but you can see the fuel pipe.

And with the tub:

George, they are the pictures from TF9502 posted on Chris' website.
