MG TD TF 1500 - TF register

Is there a register for MG midget TF.
I bought a TF 1954 and want to know in which month it came out of the factory in Abingdon.
I bought this car by Ebay and will ship it to the Netherlands this month.
Car VIN is HDB46/3455 and Engine # XPAG/TF/33598

Look here for details of production dates

And here for a register

Good luck,

That gave me an idea... I went to the corresponding TD site and looked at production dates (http://www.mgcars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_production.htm). In April of 1952 they built car numbers 14798
thru 15561. Simple math reveals my production (15470) as on the 19.3 day (the 20th production day) which means I can celebrate my car's birthday on the 28th of April each year! Yeah, there could be holes in my reasoning, but it's more fun this way.

Cool beans!

Did you remove sundays and check for easter holidays?
gordon lawson

Yes, I looked at a 1952 calendar on my Palm. I noticed there were 8 weekend dates, and I assumed that there were no holidays... did they work Saturdays? Your Easter question goes in the catagory of "holes in my reasoning"... which means you are cheating, Gordon!

Incidently, you have to interpolate using s/n 14797 because the list is inclusive, and when I did it using 30 days, and using 14798, it came up on the 27th, which was a Sunday, so I'm sticking with Monday the 28th!

warmly,
dave
Dave Braun

Nuts Gordon,

Using the working Saturday model, the car could have been built in the last hours of Saturday the 26th...

I'm happier with the 28th... lol

Someone on here has all the working days figured out... it will appear.

J.M. Bierling, Holland... don't forget to visit: http://www.niagarabritishcarclub.org/mgtnumbers/numbers.html and enter your info... a copy will be forwarded to the MGTF register.
gordon lawson

Didn't they build Y's on the same line?
S. R. Ashworth

Thanks, I corrected the info on my car on the list [TF Car No. 10030]. (wrong paint and interior color)
Mark Barrington

Gordon...
I already gave the information for the TF I bought to http://www.niagarabritishcarclub.org/mgtnumbers/numbers.html , but now it seems that also the information of the former owner in NJ is still in that database.
How to update the database that the information is only for one car with the same VIN# or Engine#

bierling

Yeah, that's annoying. I notice I did the same thing on my car, and it's now listed twice. I assume that the administrator has to come back later and clean up duplicate entries. I also wanted to correct my entry to indicate that the car is RHD, but I don't want to create 3 separate entries, so I'll leave it as is.
Mark B.

I go through and check for duplicates, but only if they are the same owner... I would like to leave duplicate chassis numbers as a way of tracking previous owners...
If you want to change anything, send me an email with all the details and will make the change (still want body numbers....)

JM - Try also http://hometown.aol.com/tfrecord/index.html
David DuBois

David and others,

The TF Record web site has changed. Try http://www.tfrecord.com/pages/index.html instead. It's a great site that Art Mafli started some years ago. You can read articles there as well as register your TF and submit a photo. Its always good to see other TFs. Give it a look.

To JM in the Netherlands. A large mea culpa is in order. Gord Clark had asked a while back if he might use the collected data on TFs I ve been putting together since shorly after buying my TF in 98. I sent him an excel file of the then current listing but alas not being the sharpest tack on the computer I had managed to offset one section of owners which lead to much confusion out there. As a stop gap Gord referenced the list as it appeared in 2003 before my occurence of brain fade. In any event I have been recieving TF info forwarded from Gord and have been ammending the register. Yes JM I noticed your TF listed under the previous owner here in the states and changed the entry as to new owner and country. Mark in the great lone star state...I will update yours also. When last additions were listed earlier this month the total was 1043 cars in all. Have yet to get back to re align the owner glitch but the cars are listed in ascending order by chassis numbers and correct. Gord has done quite a good job on his site....the glitches are on my part. If any TF owners would like a copy of the latest register....Im adding info today just recieved just drop me an email and I will send it back as an attached XLS file..its a big one...4.14 megabytes.

My problem Jeff, is that we are not really talking about a proper dataBase.

Unfortunately the two existing T-Series Excel files that I have are just lists and not (easily) sortable, which is a basic premise of any useable relational dataBase.

So a true dataBase should have individual fields for Last Name, First Name, Addr. 1, Addr 2, City, state/prov. Country, Postal Code, etc. etc. In the case of the TF "list", the names of the owners should be in separate fields, and the car number should be broken down into 3 separate fields, also.

So a look-up becomes neigh impossible with what we have now. If for example, I wanted to look up the history of TF 4592 (my car) I would want to know the prefix, but in a separate field, so I could ascertain the original build specs and colour. I would want to know all previous owners, etc.

It's possible using parsing techniques and some Visual Basic (Microsoft tech-speak) to separate the values within a cel. But hey, I'm in my 73rd year and probably couldn't figure in my few remaining years, how to write a macro for that!

Right now, my focus in on MG2006.

If you bring up the (my) data base search page, you can sort by a few variables... I could add any field at all if those don't suit.
Not having the owner's name is a bit of a bother, however, anyone wanting a list of owner's for their cars (if they are in there), i can send you by email.

Dennis - Thanks for the update on the URL for the TF Record. At the present, both URLs work, but probably not for long. Art is also a member of the Northwest MG 'T' Register and in fact I encouraged him to do a site dedicated to TFs like what Chris Cooper did for the TDs. The rest, as they say, is history. Actually, I'm sorry if I seemed negative in the previous post. Gord and Jeff, it's pretty cool to have a web site to update the list. It might be a little short of a real database, but it's a great resource.

I may be able to help you with the technical stuff, if you want to make a slightly more capable web site. Many ISPs support MySQL, which is an open-source database, for data-driven web sites. I can do that on my ISP. Whatever database you use, Excel files can easily be imported into database tables, but some magic may be required to parse out the fields, if the Excel file isn't structured the same as the tables you want. Unfortunately, that's part of what I do for a living. I rarely have the appetite for it when I'm on my own time, but for a good cause, I might be convinced to help out.

Mark... my list is set up in Mysql and i use phpadmin to go in and work on it... i have a master page that can be sorted using names (first and last), city, state, country, chassis, body, colour, email, etc.
I took the lists (TD's, TF's and ABC's) and entered them one by one using phpadmin. I stopped at 3000 or so and the rest have been entered by the owners.
When i set it up, i tried writing the html code to access it, but it was beyond me (DUH?) so i hired a chap to write it. I then put that in with my old pages in .html and added the graphics, etc. That means if someone enters the info and submits, their info can be found by going "back" and searching.
I think there is a way to have the "sort" happen on the pages after they are brought up by the viewer, but not sure how to write it, and don't want to put out any more money.
gordon lawson - TD 27667

Gordon, I can write web applications in a few languages, php being one of them. It's a little clunky, but you can't beat the price. I'll donate my time to rewrite the web front end for the database (and normalize and restructure the data), but I can't start until after October 2. (See http://www.txabcd.org) I'll contact you then, or contact me, and we'll set something up.
Mark B.

HDC43/2943 was built on Feb 1st 1954. HDP26/3626 was built on Feb 26th. Your car HDB46/3455 lies in between them.

Sounds good...we can chat by email....

Jeff, I like to get a copy of your database for TF.
My car I bought recently by Ebay will be shipped on August 31 to the Netherlands and as soon as I pickup the car in Rotterdam I will give all informations of body# etc to registers.
It is importent to keep history of these cars, I did it also for my two MG-A's
