MG TD TF 1500 - TF Snafu

Trying the get the TF together for the local show this weekend but appears that's not gonna happen. To many things , to little time. Engine is ready to fire and has oil pressure, but when I put fuel in the tank and turnrd the key I had a leak on the banjo fitting at the front carb. Had a closer look and found the threads corroded away. Thinking I'll try and find a heli-coil to try and fix. Anybody have any thoughts? What size should I look for? If I had her fired up tonight AND if no other snafus I thought I might have had a chance. Have the front wings, running boards and chrome strips, side panels, bonnet, grille, headlights, mirrors, parking lamps, and carpet left to do. Don't want to assemble until I'm sure the motor won't have to come back out. Looks like next year.

LaVern - The tread size is 3/8 British Standard Pipe. I don't know if you can get Heli Coils in that size, but Recoil does. Recoil kits are available from some suppliers in the US, but I don't know who they are. I do know that they are available from Uni Thread http://www.uni-thread.com/ in the UK does stock them. You can order them on line and use a credit card to pay, but they are quite expensive. It may be cheaper to get a new lid for the float chamber from Burlen Fuel Systems http://www.burlen.co.uk/ If you don't know what the part number is, I may be able to find it for you. Let me know if you need me to look it up for you. Something that makes a new lid look better than trying to put a recoil into the old lid, the old aluminum doesn't always tap well, often just crumbling under the tap. Good luck - Dave

http://www.britishfasteners.com also has Recoils. Probably best to get a new or used float lid due to the difficulty in sealing the banjo/fiber washers.

Had to go to Fasteners place this morning and they have the re-coil kits (not the size I need of course). Can order one for $ 139.00, cheaper to buy new lid. Guess I'll get a new one ordered.

Thanks Guys
