MG TD TF 1500 - TF warning Lights

Hi,

A query about the layout of the warning lights on central instrument panel of the TF.

According to the wiring diagram in the Workshop Manual and Operation Manual the layout should be:

left: ignition warning light
centre: petrol warning light
right: direction indicator warning light

However the description and pictures in the Operation Manual suggest:

left: petrol warning light
centre: ignition warning light
right: direction indicator warning light

I appreciate that this a relatively small issue in my restoration project but I would like to try and get it right (if there is a right way).

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Best wishes

Dave

Hi Dave,
page 24 in WSM says centre ignition left fuel right indicators.
After we spoke last night at the club meeting I checked mine as I drove home.Mine is wrong which ever way is right, after 39 years driving it I don't really care.

For LHD....

left: ignition warning light
centre: petrol warning light
right: direction indicator warning light

For RHD......

left: petrol warning light
centre: ignition warning light
right: direction indicator warning light

Interesting ...one would think if reversed for LHD/RHD it would just be petrol & direction that would do so.

My bad. David. I just copied and pasted. I think you are correct. I think the LHD example is correct and that the RHD had the petrol and turn signal lights reversed.

Mine is like this:
left: petrol warning light
centre: ignition warning light
right: direction indicator warning light

Disclaimer: Izzy's dash was in "RHD" configuration when purchased. (Tach & Speedo reversed). I have reason to believe at some point componets were replaced from a RHD car. The "primary engage" knob for my wipers was also in the RH glove box.

IMHO: Put them where you want them!
I changed the turn indacator at same time I put the Tach in front of driver...then changed iturn indacator back as it was blocked by the steering wheel. Right or wrong I'm used to it now!

I believe the left is the petrol light, centre ignition, right indicator at least in a LHD Car In any case the ignition is in the centre, the most prominant position.

My TF 1500 had this configuration when I bought it from a museam in 1964 with only 6000 miles on it. It was all original at that time, No DPO!
It is as page 24 WSM says.

Many thanks for everyone's interesting replies. I agree with the philosophy of "put them where you want them". I am going with:

left: petrol warning light
centre: ignition warning light
right: direction indicator warning light

Thanks again

Dave

Always a fun subject ...as they were made LHD & RHD!
Look forward to hearing from you when you get to "Start & Choke" knobs!
