MG TD TF 1500 - TF Windscreen Stanchions Rubber Base

Hi All,

Can anyone recommend an MG parts supplier who has the best fitting mgtf Windscreen Stanchions Rubber gaskets. Many don't seem to fit well.

The Part Nos. for the actual Stanchions themselves are different for the MGTD and MGTF.

My TD ones suck too. Some of it can be attributed to years of replating but ...

Chris, I am pleased you have obviously experienced the same annoyance re
the Windscreen rubbers !

I do all the preparation of all parts to be chrome plated, right through to the
final buff stage. The stanchions on the 1500 had never been replated and I was of course mighty careful not to disturb any perimeter base area of the Stanchions.

During the rebuild of the body tub, I had the Stanchions fitting the scuttle
sides like a glove. The rubbers seem to be the problem.

Cheers and thanks for your comments.

I've ordered both from Brown & Gammon's and Moss and both seem to be the same.

It seems the raised edge of the rubber pad that encompasses around the stanchions just won't fit evenly all around. If it was made just a hair larger there wouldn't be such an issue.

Issues I experienced is the holes do not line up so elongating the holes is necessary.

Rubbing some water based "personal lubricant" to the pad when installing helps to keep the rubber pad from "sticking" to the scuttle and allow to "finesse" the rubber pad before tightening down to get it "close" due to it being just a tad too small.

Just one of things that you just have to "make it work" to look good I guess.

Hi Frank,

Thankyou for your input on these blinking Stanchion Rubbers.

I do have one rubber base which looks to be more like an original. It has B 1001 finely cast on the rubber base. Fits fairly well.

All the repro. other sets I have do not fit up well. I might try Anglo Parts (Belgium) for a better chance.

I thought Bruce Smith in Sydney had the best fit?

Thanks Rod. I did think however that Sportsparts in Sydney used Moss as a supplier ?

I was sure when Phil Redhead had the company he had his own dies made for some of the rubbers the one you need in the past was not Moss. May be now but check it out.

My car will never be the same to me again. Oh the horrors! :-)
