MG TD TF 1500 - TF wiper wiring

To all with a better memory than mine - The wiring diagram for the TF shows two wires from the wiper - one going to ground and one going to the switched wire bundle (green). There was a discussion on this site some time ago as to how the wires to the wiper motor should actually go - can someone please tell me how that should be wired. Thank you - Dave

Never mind folks, I found the answer in the archives. Thank you - Dave

This subject has been discussed many times. And maybe it's just me,most likely me, I'm still not sure what was the original wiring scheme. On my TF there was a small 2 wire harness one black wire, one green wire, feeding from the wiper switch(knob) to the wiper motor. So I assumed you just hook up the two to the grub screws on the motor end. Also there is a ground wire from the right side harness that conects to one of the casing lid hold down screws. So, is this correct?

Dan - According to what I found in the archives, the switch is in the ground connection to the motor. Power is attached to one wire of the motor, with the other wire from the motor going to the switch. The second wire from the switch is attached to ground. Cheers - Dave

Dave, Where does the power come from? which is the ground connection to the motor?
It would be nice to have a wiring sketch for this.
It's gotta be me.

You are correct David. Loom wire hot wire goes to the motor. Loom ground goes to the wiper case. Another wire is needed to go from the motor ground to the switch and then from the switch to ground to make the circuit.

On my TF which had the original wiring, the ignition switched hot wire comes to the top grub screw of the wiper motor. The NOT Black wire in the two wire separate harness goes from the bottom grub screw to the switch on the drivers knob The black wire in this two wire harness goes to an eylet which is fastened to the wiper motor gear box cover by one of the cover screws. This supplies the "ground" (earth) connection to complete the circuit when the switch is ON,
Note that there is no separate ground wire from the case to ground,

This wiring and the switch is not shown on the TF wiring diagram.

"This wiring and the switch is not shown on the TF wiring diagram." ...and that is why it holds the patten for "intermiten wipers"!

I put a toggle switch on mine so I don't have to deal with the in dash knobs any longer.
(Made sence after I installed locking glove box doors.)

RAIN-X ;-)!

I have a double wire ground with an eyelet coming out of the wiring harness in that area. If not for the wiper motor, any idea where this attaches?

Dan Hanson

I think it attaches to a bolt holding the engine bay side panels and wings on.

I tested mine with a meter. I believe one of the two wires goes to the ground wire that attaches to one of the screws that hold the cover on the wiper drive and the other goes to the ground on the headlight connection. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Ok LaVerne
I'll ask the stupid question, are you trying to starting a new trend, painting the black rubber side walls of your tires Red.

Two words John....crap wheels

LaVerne

I just left em on the B when I shot the paint ever so many years ago and this was the only one I kept.
