MG TD TF 1500 - to: Nick Herwegh - interesting ad!
Nick, I've found an interesting ad for mg td. It's an ad of Molenaar and ar the bottom there is a sentence that states: "Now and then we can supply a chassis-only" (Nu en dan een enkel MG-chassis leverbaar). That gives a perfect fit with the 11 chassis-only that were imported during 1951 by Molenaar. Jasper BTW did you look at the 2 videos in the OT thread a couple of days ago? ![]() |

Jasper - do you have chassis numbers or any other information on those cars? I may find something in the production records. When in 1951, perhaps? Tom Lange Bar Harbor, Maine |

Tom, The chassis numbers are: TD/8553 chassis TD/8759 chassis TD/9582 chassis TD/9583 chassis TD/9584 chassis TD/9585 chassis TD/9769 chassis TD/9770 chassis TD/9771 chassis TD/9772 chassis TD/9773 chassis I'm in contact with someone who has access to the archives of Molenaar. I'm sure he will provide more detailed information on these chassis numbers. By then I'll let you know. Jasper |

Jasper, I am hoping that your contact will find many chassis numbers that Molenaar imported. Maybe my car will be included. I'll keep my fingers crossed. |

Jim, What's your chassis number? I have a complete list of the TD-imports. by Molenaar. Jasper |

Do we know what was done with these bare bones? FRM |

Probably for race-specials. Jasper |

Jasper, the chassis number is TD 20660 EXR as marked on the ID plate. It did have a speedometer calibrated in kilometers but the ID plate does not reflect that designation like EXRK, |
Jim Merz |
Jim - the factory production ledgers do show your car as an EXRK spec., and the on-line record is all correct. Tom |

Jim, Molenaar officially imported 127 TD's (amongst them 11 chassis-only) in Holland. However, your car #20660 is NOT on this list. Why do you think your car ever was in Holland? Jasper |
Jasper L Nederhoed |
Tom, Did you already checked the chassis-only numbers of 1951? I've checked with Tregister in UK and they are all there, but without specific detailed information on the chassis-only issue. Jasper |
Jasper L Nederhoed |
Jasper - the production ledgers are logically arranged by number, so I will have to look through all of 1951 to find them. That's roughly 220 pages of records, at 33 records per page, or 7,260 records -give or take! In looking for other information I have noticed some chassis-only records, but they do not give much more information than that. I will get to it today, and will let you know. Sorry...didn't want to give you a boost ;-) Just curious... Jasper |

Jasper, Thanks for the 1951 Molenaar advert. I have a similar one in my archive taken from an old issue of "De Autokampioen". Indeed the car mentioned in the advert (the Dries van der Lof racing MG TD Special) might have been based on one of the chassis available through Molenaar. Unfortunately I don't have enough period articles in my archive to investigate this. Ditto for another racing special: the Spaay MG TD (described in the August 1985 issue of "het Automobiel" page 36 to 39). I know of only two special coachbuilt Dutch TD's: the razor edge coupe built by Veth of Arnhem and the roadster by Verheul. (Again I don't know the chassis numbers of those cars but I'm sure Wiard Krook will know). On the other hand I guess we shouldn't think too much about exotic specials regarding these Molenaar chassis'. Presumeably quite a few were used as spare parts to repair accident damaged cars, surely. Cheers, Nick, TD3232 PS: Interesting footage on the Minor assembly especially "applying the body undercoating"....LOL ! PSS: A link to a nice photo of the van der Lof Special: http://www.flickr.com/photos/36604914@N07/3531375461/ |

Tom, I believe my car really did have the speedo calibrated in Kilometers installed at the factory. That's the way it was equipped when I bought it in January 1962. But as we all know, they were not too precise on many things at the factory. I suspect that not stamping the "K" on my ID plate might have one such omission. I still have the sppeedo in storage. |

Jasper, check your email. My answer to your question was too long for this BBS. |
