MG TD TF 1500 - Transmission Cover TD/TF
The original transmission cover (over the gearbox) was covered in sound insultation material. Does anyone know what it was and where (in the UK) can it be obtained from? Or, is it available in the USA? The purpose of this covering was sound deadening so carpet underlay would do but I would like to get the car as near original as possible. I am currrently rebuilding the TD and it has taken since last October to take it apart and get it back to a rolling chassis awaiting a new tub. |

Google "Dynamat" or "Dynaliner", not original but much better and it doesn't show. |

Hi: If the insulation you are referring to is what I call brown “horse hair”. I find it in car trunks in Pick-Your-Part. It was often used on the back of the trunk’s rubber matting and in many cars is just like new if the trunk is well sealed. I have never been able to find a supplier even through the upholstery wholesale . . . it would be easier if I knew the proper name. :-) I just peal it off the rubber and then use 3-M upholstery spray glue to attach it to the car. It gives an original feel to restored car carpets that cannot be duplicated with anything else. Sorry I do not have a year or make of the vehicles that used it. Godspeed in Safety Fast Jc |

RJ, I used a sound and thermal insulation kit. It's not original but it doesn't show. It's great for reducing heat transfer and sound. I believe they sell individual pieces as well as kits. http://www.quietride.com/product-search/default.asp |
